A pleasure indeed!

Yeah it ain't gonna happen in 2012, that's for sure. You up for sailing yours across Lake MI to meet me in Manitowoc? Maybe you could get the Ludington Ferry to tow you across....

Man, that sure looks cool. We could bring kayaks to fish that inner lake - I bet it doesn't get much pressure.

But in reality, it's gonna be a long time before I'm confident enough in myself and my boat that I would sail it across that kinda big water.

So YOU need to come to MY side.

;)

In fact, you should sail down around Lake MI to Chicago, into that river that goes to St. Louis, then up the Mississippi to Minneapolis.

I'll meet you at Psycho Suzie's - they make a great pizza!

That inner lake is really rough to get to on foot, hauling a kayak would be brutal. There are some biggens in that lake though!

The dunes and beaches out there are sweet!

There's a light house out there that is a barrel of fun to jump off of...

Though I wouldn't personally know this as it's totally against all federal/state/local laws to do such a thing:eek: And I am certainly an upstanding, law abiding, Mr. Rogers type citizen;):D

Great salmon/steelhead out there too!

While you two are vacation planning :)cool:), I would feel a lot better if the block was drained. You never know when snow/ice/wind/tree will bring down a power line.

Absolutely agreed sir. I've already swapped the motor on this beast once and although it was a pretty neat-o experience, I'd rather not do it again. I've winterized it twice now, and that process was a lot faster and cheaper. ;)

Okay I got the new box built for over the motor. Now I'm working on plans for the seat boxes that will also contain the fuel tanks. Stuck on how tall to make them.

I don't really want pedestals, I wanna just mount the seats on swivels right the tops of the boxes. Like in this picture I stole from Jason (it's okay he stole it from someone else):
Picture012.jpg

And I can't wrap my head around the seat mounts. I can't use a swivel like this:

Cause as soon as I put the screws in one side, let's say to the seat bottom, I have no way to access the screws to put them in to the box top. Reverse the process, the problem is the same. I'm guessing these MUST be designed for pedestal use only yeah? So what would the bracket be like for the seats in Jason's picture up above? Am I gonna have to give up on the swiveling idea?

Oh this new job is kicking my *** and my brain is fried.

Sure you can. I have those swivels on my jon boat, mounted on a 5/8" plywood hatch cover. I screwed them to the seat first, then weaseled the bolts into the plywood. It's not easy, but doable.

I have a set that I did not use on mine if you want them. Pm your cell # and I need to see this thing in person since it looks like you have finished a lot of work since the last time I have seen it.

Hmmm...

I'm thinking you should be able to pre drill your holes in the seat boxes, mount the seat to the swivel, then the swivel to the box. Eh?

Fried brain? Dood, that doesn't sound like a whole lotta fun:(

Duct tape, PR. Cuz WD40 won't work for this one.

Pre-drill top of box, mount seat to swivel, slip bolts/washers - not screws, through swivel, tape bolts down unless you have really long, skinny fingers or small child to help, drop seat on box - make sure the bolts go in the holes, add nuts/washers, tighten everything (righty-tighty, lefty-loosey) down and give the seat a spin, whirl, whatever.

That's way more detail that you don't need PR, but your brain is fried. Trying to save your last brain cells for real important stuff, like battery placement. ;) Anyway, that's how I mounted seats and swivels on a box. HTH.

Re: I'm an owner! 1975 Islander 22

If the box top ply wood is too thick (you need bolts at least 1" long to go thru 3/4" ply & have just barely enough thread to tighten onto a bolt, after the thickness of the epoxy coated wood, swivel base & a washer or 2, that may make getting them thru the swivel difficult, small fingers or not) to allow bolts to be installed for mounting after the seat base is installed, drop the swivel base mount bolts thru the holes & loosely tighten the nuts onto bolts. Then install the swivel to the seat, loosen base nuts & bolts, drop thru box top & thread nuts onto bolts. This lets you use 2" + long bolts to go thru double 3/4" plywood seat box top..... 2 1/2" bolts would be tough to thread into the swivel base after it's mounted to the seat. An open ended wrench is usually plenty long enough to reach the bolt heads to securely tighten the nuts & bolts down onto the box.:)

Of course all that's after accurately laying out the bolt holes using the swivel base as a template.....

Your video is providing inspiration for me this evening as I've just completed gutting the interior and decks of my 1970 Islander. Many thanks!
