for a friend that i got hooked on boating. Any thoughts? its kinda old, but i have always liked daycruisers. Any news on the 280 outdrive? ive never researched them. he admits the boats a little large, but he knows he wont need to move up any time soon as his children get bigger so it might work out.

Ya but at least you know what to look for!! different boats, but same things to spot. I hope it turns out to be a good boat for him, So make sure the decision is his totally, I advise my son all the time, but I tell him that it is "his" decision to make, all I can do is tell him what I think is best. Good luck with it, Again I hope its what he is looking for!! let us know!

Ya I have some good Ideas on how to make it work!! I also think its definitly do-able, but don't want it to take up too much room when WE take it off either.

i cleared out the perfect storage spot for mine...under the rear portside seat cushion...the compartment next to the engine. i can store the bottle in the bow storage or gunnels.

Biggest Issue i can see Redone is that I think by the picture the thing has an OMC outdrive on it...

I don't know much about them other than many people here go ewwwwy when they see one. OMC is out of business, and I gather parts for it are hard to come by...

May want to think about that as part of the overall purchase and long term maintenace

good luck!

isn't the 280 an older volvo outdrive? i dont know much about volvos, but i always thought the 280 was theirs. plus, the light grey/white color they were known for.

yep looks like a 280, strong dependable drive, a friend of mine runs one on a 26 ft Tolly Craft with a 165 hp turbo diesle, works great. as for bbq's I built a mount for mine that fits in a Scotty brand rod holder,I can put it port, starbord, or rear in the middle

pretty good redone--going from outdrive to bbq topics in the blink of an eye--talk about multi-tasking!! wish i had some info on the boat but at least you know what to look for--you helped me make some decisions on mine under a different user name at the beginning of the season--good luck with the bbq mount let us know how the water trial turns out

2 cents:
As long as it don't leak seems to me he could do some upholstery, etc, and with a little elbow grease have a stunning 26' cruiser for under $10K.

Re: I'm looking at this boat tomorrow.....

well, the 26' we were set to look at sold sometime last night. so, we proceeded to look at some others. wow. just like the threads ive been reading, they were waterlogged hulls sitting on trailers. one was a 190 four winns...sounded good. needed "interior work". sure did, the floor had rotted out, had another floor put on top, that rotted out, all vinyl was shot. the dudes foot almost fell thru the ski locker.....wow.

sucks, my buddy had his heart set but had to convince the wife and missed the one he wanted. now hes getting kinda discouraged, naturally. oh well, we are gonna keep looking.

im happy with my bayliner, what happened was i took him out once and he got hooked on boating again. hes got about $3000 to spend, and another $500 for expenses he might need after that. its a good plan, just gonna take some searching i guess.
