The water pump is located on the top of the lower unit, which at the bottom of the motor where the prop and gears are. You have to drop (take off) the lower unit from the rest of the motor. It sounds worse than it is. I can take off my 3 hp lower unit in 5 minutes, but I don't have a shift rod to deal with.

have got that far all i got was 4 nuts holding case took that away find rouned hole were the lower leg fits in were do i go from there, i no a thick welshman, he he lol.:redface:

If it's the same (or similar) to my '72, you will see the pump housing attached to the gear unit with two regular machine screws. Remove those and withdraw the shaft with the impeller attached. Note the direction of the blades within the pump housing.
