Re: impellor question
The impellor on this outboard is one piece rubber, so it had to of been turning. and like i said, it fit very snugly in the housing, just as the new one in the new housing, were it was worn was in the inside top of the housing(where the whole impellor rubs the housing. All i do know for sure is, it wasn't pumping, and now, eith the new pump installed, it is. so it must have been bad, however, me being a novice looking at it, i couldnt tell why. my only conclusion is that the housing was worn enough to cause it not to seal well on the bottom plate and housing.

Is it normal for the water pump bottom plate to have scarred the driveshaft from normal use? it all went togethor fine, but i did notice a scar that goes all around the shaft in a line no bigger then a 1/16th of a inch right were the shaft goes through that plate.

and as for the rubber seal that the drivesaft goes through directly under the water pump lower plate, it wasnt cracked or damaged that i could tell, but it was fairly dirty all around it, do i ever need to replace that seal, and is it very difficult?

thanks
jason
