It will do it w/o problems...... you are pulling a rolling load and not full weight

Dig out the truck as best as you can and lots of sand......... Put as much weight as you can in the back of the explorer.....Pics would be interesting.......:)

your biggest obstacle will be traction for the explorer........ I keep tire chains on-hand just in case and a pulley block incase I need to get an alternate direction for pulling too

I am thinking I now have a good excuse to go and purchase a new 12000 lb warn winch!

Could use the "Maine winch" method a buddy of mine into mudding told me about.

Hook a rope to a stationary object. Wrap the other end of the rope around one of the front wheels, and put her in low gear. Of course this plan is bust if you have an open front diff, and if it didn't work I wouldn't be a bit surprised... :D

I was just thinking, I have dual wheels on the back of this rig, has anyone ever tried to use their duals as a makeshift winch? I am thinking, heavy duty snatch strap around the inside of the duals then 4 low, put her reverse and slowly pull myself out?

Sound feasible? This rig has a 4:10 posi rear.

Best thing to do is dig out the snow under the vehicle and build a path for the wheels.
As long as you have no resistance as the guys said it should pop right out.

(Remember to lift the blade and turn it out of the way of the snow bank)

I am still leaning tword the new 12K warn winch idea! LOL, at least my wife knows now why we NEED one!

:D

Last month when we were in OR for Christmas, I kept showing them to her and she kept say, what do we need one of those for!

:faint2:

Besides, Thursday is my birthday, would make a great B-Day present from her!

That would be loads of fun mounting a 12k winch on the front of a truck stuck in a snowbank with a plow on it. :D

I really think the only way to get her out would be to go buy and install and 12K Warn Winch.

(and you can tell your wife I said that)

Definitely feasible, although I never tried it. Good luck

Hope you have a tree you can tie off on. I recommend blocks and tackle to go with your new winch. The reduction will really increase your winch power.
A word of caution. I hauled a friends after market bumper with winch, home in the back of my pickup one night after he tried to winch a guy out of a snow predicament

A two speed transfer case in the AWD Exploder would help a lot.

Back in '70 I had an original Bronco V8 with 2 speed transfer case and studded snow tires. I found a tow truck and its tow in a snowbank (northern IL) and pulled them both out. I was on pavement.

I also had a 4WD Kubota and a 4X4 Ranger with 2 speed transfer case both buried to the hubs in a boggy field. I "winched" them out with a HDX2 come-along. I was a lot stronger then.:)
