Re: Inboard outboard air cooled engine

The muffler looks kind of cool but I think it would be a little tight in the boat. Didn't do much on the boat this weekend , spent most of my time with the family! I did drag out the electric wench tonight and clean it up a bit. 3500 pound capacity, you think that will haul the ole "SHAKER" out of the water and into the back of the truck?:) Still unsure if I'll use it but I am thinking it over!
Sure it will. If in doubt add a couple more blocks to the system. But I have seen a quad picked up off the ground with a 3500 winch with 1 snatch block on it. You should not have a problem. Except to make a strong pull point on the boat.

Hey maxum, I'm sure we're all patiently waiting, or champing at the bit, to hear if, and, or, when, you've done the christening, and, or, taken the maiden voyage with (our new baby,,,lol) the "Shaker"? :D

I have been daydreaming about the shaker again. You mentioned useing a winch to get the boat in the truck. Well! How about building a wooden cradle that fits in the box and a bit longer. build it to fit bottom of boat. Then make a removeable ramp for the cradle to run on off the back. Use a block with the winch so you can move cradle in and out. Run cradle down ramp into the water, float boat onto it , tie it down, and winch the whole thing into the truck. :D There is the idea, you do the engineering.:D:D

If all goes well, I'd say in the next week or two!:)

I'm going to have to come up with something now that there is a lower unit under the boat to get caught on the ramp!
Can't spend the money for a trailer right now! Have to finish the center console project, the 24/7. Hope to finish it by mid summer or before.
When that's done I'd like to start another boat project at some point, "The Shingle" if I can find the right boat and can afford to take on another project!:)

Hey maxum, What do you have, a pickup truck? maybe you could drop your tailgate, and reinforce it some, then build an extension on it, wood, or metal, or possibly, use an old door, or planking layed flat, fastened down to the bed somehow, extended past the tailgate. Or make a sliding platform of some type, maybe even on wheels, to extend out past the bed, & tailgate, enough so you can back up into the water just enough to float the boat off. In essence a telescoping bed, or maybe an extended tilting bed?

Soon as I get some daylight I'll get a picture of what I use now. Worked good in the past but the lower unit ads new problems. Have a set of ramps for the time being but will upgrade soon as I collect enough idea's and time to refit!:)

Re: Inboard outboard air cooled engine

Here is a picture of the bunk I use to haul the boat around, the boat sits on nice and tight when tied down, boat doesn't move around at all!

The lumber you see in the back of the truck is lumber I picked up a couple months ago. I ride it around for a month or two spread out in the back of the truck, during different weather conditions if it doesn't crack or curl it goes in my boat lumber pile in the barn.

Put the lettering on after work tonight! There's gold trim on the inside of the lettering about 1/8 inch wide but the picture doesn't show it , looks all white with black trim. Actually looks pretty good.:)

I really cant wait to see this thing go. Have you ran it yet just to test the motor? I think you can run it dry since its a air cooled engine. What are you going to do with the water pump thats inside the L/U? You should have it pump water out the back like a rooster tail! LOL I hope you share a video with us all when you get it into the water. Anyways its going pretty well and it looks good. I want one! I want to make one like that now! You should go into production of these. You never know you could become rich as a lot of people will want one of these boats!

Re: Inboard outboard air cooled engine

I finally got the truck set up to haul the "SHAKER". Saturday I was busy with other things. Sunday I worked on the wench setup between the rain showers. By the time I finished it was almost dark so I didn't have time to take the boat out for a test run. I did take it to the ramp to size things up. The truck I have now sits about four inches lower than my old truck so I think the setup I used before will work fine for this truck! Seems the lower unit may clear the ramp launching and coming out of the water ok! I ended up mounting a hand crank wench on the bed side and installed a peice of angle iron across the top of the bed for strength and mounted a big eyebolt thru the center and ran my wench rope thru the eyebolt with a hook on the end, works pretty good. Decided not to use the electric wench felt I needed it more for my 20 footer. Anyway this coming weekend I plan to give the "Shaker" a test and see how it does!:)

Here's a couple pictures of the wench setup!
