Re: info on outdrive gear tooth please

ok here we go again, ideas just keeps coming.

about the exhaust flappers, when i first started the boat ever, i heard a noise comming from behind the exhaust area,

i did not let it stop me from taking the boat for its first run,

at that time i was runing a 19 pitch marage prop, its maybe my mind but that first run was so great, the boat runs like a scared ape. i did not try to see the rmp , speed ect, i was just a happy rookie. but as soon as i got back to the dock the noise in the exhaust gets louder, so i took of the manifold to look at the flappers, one was 90% good the one that was making the noise was just barely hanging on in one word it was damage. i try to order the original ones but my marina did not have it , so i replace it with the up grade one sold to me by part-man.com it was total diffrent,

it was like a butterfly, shape and it fits kinda too tight , seems it might realy slow down the exhaust exit from the engine.

i did have my dought, that why i told my marina to order the original one with the long pin,

thanks again, lots of ideas

A vacuum test wouldn't hurt either....That would tell you if you have a possible exhaust restriction....Among other things....JK

This sounds all too familiar......

I would make sure all cylinders are contributing under load. You could do this by removing 1 plug wire at a time while running under load.....of course this would require a helper..... :)

I went through a whole mirage of tests and though all kinds of parts at my problem......didn't find the problem until I checked each cylinder under load.

Good luck!!

Re: info on outdrive gear tooth please

ok fellas

i am back with my update result.

first i did fog the engine before, so lets get that noted,

i took off the risers/manifold all the plugs seems fine, no deposits, but they has the foging oil on the tips so .

anyway i did not do a wet test because the result from the dry test on a cold engine seems i did not need the wet test, here it goes.

# 1 cilinder 150

# 2 cil 150

# 3 145 i put a little oil in #3
result 150

#4 150

# 5 150

#6 150

# 7 150

# 8 148

that is my compression result on the cold engine.

but as i said remember the engin was fog with marble mystry oil last week sunday, so i gess inside the cilinders might have some juice in there, i mean kinda wet.

so what you think guys,

i took out those exhaust flappers i just dont like the way they fit in the y pipe seem it was most likely restricting my exhaust flo,

also the carb i think is a peice of junk,

thanks for looking

Re: info on outdrive gear tooth please

The fogging oil will act just like putting oil in the cylinders. You need to run the engine to burn off the oil to find out how the rings are, but I doubt that is your problem.
If you can look at the carb and make the comment that it's a piece of junk, then the first step would be to get the proper marine carb to fit your engine, or get yours rebuilt, or even do it yourself if you have the ability, the manual, and the tools and cleaners to do it.
No matter what you do, running the boat ON THE WATER will be required to test if the problem is cured or still exists.

Probably need the 1409 Edelbrock....better check if the hole pattern on your manifold matches up. The Edelbrock utilizes the Square Bore pattern.
