Re: insects inside my walls???
Definately sounds like Carpenter Ants. Bang on the wall where you hear the sound, and the sound should increase. People often think the sound they are hearing is chewing when in fact they click their mandibles when agitated, especially when you pound on the wall. They also are fairly noisy when they are walking, the acoustics of the wall tends to amplify the sounds. I usually gas them with a machine that pumps pure pyrethrium gas into the void. There is no mistaking when they are hit, it sounds like heavy rain on a roof when they are all running around dying in the wall. I then use 80 psi of air in a portible cannister to force Timbor into the wallvoids by drilling a hole on the outside of electrical outlet boxes after removing the plates. That is enough force to cause it to move along the wiring and plumbing (which they use to move around the home), and also up the insulation. Without this force, just squirting a borate through a hole by hand does little. You have to approach carpenter ants with a working knowledge of home construction, or you are spinning your wheels. You have to asess why they are there. They are after food and moisture. They do not eat wood, and they live near moisture damage, but can also infest a perfectly dry home.

I also spray a residual liquid on the entire exterior of the home, the crawlspace, and the interior baseboards. This one treatment lasts for 1 year, with one followup treament per year afterwards. Companies that sell you monthly service to eliminate carpenter ants are just taking your money. It is unethical but goes on all the time.

Yes, Crazy Charlie, Mellow Yellow, the ants are very audible. Most people think they have mice when they hear it.
