OK. It worked fine and you took everything off the shaft. Then reinstalled those exact same parts (not new ones or different ones or "the same as" ones) you took off and now it doesnt work. Right?
well i did replace the thrust washer with a new one but i ran it after putting the new one on so that shouldn't be the problem ( i didn't even need to replace it, it wasn't worn but i replaced it anyway
That's a wierd one (replaced all the parts that worked before and now it won't turn) gads only thing i can think of is did you bump it in gear while you had it off. When you tighten the prop nut it quits turning, its got to be rubbing on something, almost has to be the spacer (is it sliding past the splines)? That's a real head banger.
Is the thrust washer installed the right way? If you look at the middle of the thrust washer you will notice one side has a bigger hole than the other(it's beveled). The big holed part goes first toward the gearcase.
Put Transmission in neutral lol Sorry had to say that. What was wrong with the thing before you started to work on it? Is there maybe something wrong with the transmission part in the lower unit? Is the impeller hung up? With the propeller removed does it turn?

voxmorgan
tapped the carrier in and it didn't move so it's gotta be in as far as it'll go if i bang it any more i'm afraid i'll crack it. the shaft isin't spinning as freely as i'd like but spins
without putting a magnifing glass to the washer both sides look the same. it is in neutral and the shaft is spinning kind of stiff with no play in it what so ever and as i said the carrier is in as tight as i can get it without hitting it to hard that is
You have two threads going on the same gear case, check your other thread. The housing has to be in far enough for the 2 wedges to fit in a notch to hold the housing in the gear case, your photos do not show these wedges. If the housing will not go in far enough, you need to remove it and take a look at what is keeping moving inward enough. Possible thrust washer and bearing installed incorrectly, gear case bore needs cleaning.
