Okay, As you know I have installed a tower of power . More exact a 1969 1250.
Today I installed bilge pump. Went perfect.
then decided to tackle my power tilt unit.
Well first thing I cleaned out hoses. Then setup a fabricated mounting area for main unit. Then I filled per selco manual the fill hole with 5-30 oil. With vent open I tested unit and it works as advertised. I tried full trailer, down and up a few times then refilled oil and closed vent and oil hole. Seems to work GREAT. I see no leaks are apparent.
The one problem I do have is that when I got motor tilt pin was in first hole from transom. I moved to second hole and when I operated the power tilt unit it came down on tilt pin (acutally the nylon behind motor belt did) and bent pin abit. Now I need a new pin or possibly just straighten mine. I am guessing this happened because unit wanted to go lower. I do not see an adjustment to keep it from going down on pin. Actually no since it bent pin I dont think it wants to go any lower.
Any ideas. Also does anyone have a tilt pin for sale?
Other then that I have left it up in trailer to see if it stays up.
Thanks
Tod

I would just leave the pin in the closest hole to the transom. As long at the motor will tuck in and not hit anything or bind up, you'll be fine. You want to be able to tuck it in for improved holeshot, then trim out once on plane. Any way you can take good pics of the setup, so I can see how it is set up? I still have my dream of coming acroos a donor inline. I came close a few weeks ago, a guy got rid of two complete inlines for cheap in my local rag. I called and some dirtbag from a marina bought them to part out for an outrageous mark-up.

When installing power trim you are to remove the rev. lock and tilt pin and replace the lock mechanism with a strap and pin assm.

Laddies, I am totaly confused now?? THe Selco manual says to NEVER operate motor without TILT pin inserted and that is under the power tilt trim section. I can see there is no reverse lock as it does state there will be no reverse lock with power tt. I have some kind of big nylon strap under motor connected on two ends. It that the strap you are talking about? Is there not an adjustment to limit IN travel so it does not hit pin?
thanks

1250's did not come with power trim. Any that have it have either been retrofitted with a setup from another inline or were outfitted with the optional setup that could be purchased. I talked to great length about this with my merc guy who started in the dealership/mechanic biz before the 1250 existed.

Yes that sounds like the strap that came in the power trim kit. Thats the problem with seloc manuals they don't always agree with Merury Marine manuals, when power trim is installed it replaces the lock down system we useed to convert the all the time. Jason when Mercury came out with the power trim kit it fit almost all engines above 50 HP and newer than 1967, 500 must be 1970 or newer--Bob

So am I understanding that I am supposed to remove the tilt pin becuase I have power tilt trim with strap? > What will keep motor from lowering into the transom without something to limit it or stop it?

Hyd. pressure in the cyls. is supiost to hold the engine in any position that you leave it at if it's working properly
