My boat just has a single tilt/trim switch built into the throttle control. Is it possible to install one somewhere around the motor? I was thinking a simple 3-position rocker switch either mounted to the transom, or cut into the cowl. What would be involved with something like this?

Re: Installing 2nd tilt/trim switch in transom

It can be done. I just finished this on my boat. I have a trophy that had an original force on it. I put an Evinrude and spliced the wiring harnesses together. To make a long story short, you need to get a three position momentary switch. Center with up and down momentary. You need to use the same power feed that the dash wire uses. Then it is just power in and out. The out power goes to the respective trim relays in the trim control box. (Under the motor hood)

Not impossible, not that hard, just figuring out what wires feeds the front control and splicing in to that wire is where the fun is.

I used a OMC trim switch off of ebay. It was pricy ($60) but It came with a nice plastic mounting plate and I will be able to replace the switch in time if it should fail with an off the shelf switch.

install anywhere you want. be careful that splashing water won't cause short.
wire in parralel. make sure 12v power source is fuse protected.
there is no limit, you can have 20 trim switches if it makes you happy.

My thinking is:
The top pin on the switch needs to be spliced into the blue trigger wire going to the trim/tilt relay
The bottom pin on the switch needs to be spliced into the green trigger wire going to the other trim/tilt relay.
The middle pin to a fused 12v source.

I assume this will then leave my helm switch working aswell as my new switch which I will mount on the lower cowling. Out of the Tilt /trim relays I have these 2 wires going to the motor:

At 150+ posts you should know to not open a 9 year old post??
Yes the wiring just needs to be spliced.

You didn't post in an old thread, you hijacked the thread with 4 times the number of posts in the thread than the OP who made one post.

BTW - If you don't start a thread of your, you can't be told to search the forum.
