Re: Installing a water pressure gauge
Okay I got the manual and looked at the section that I am 99.9% applies to my engine...but I have no clue how to do these instructions. I have underlined the parts that I am confused on. Also, high-level, how does the water pressure gauge work?? Does it capture the pressure water is coming out of the water exhaust port? Can anyone please help shed light on this lost soul....thanks
"EVINRUDE/JOHNSON OUTBOARDS
40,48, AND 50 HP, 1989 and later:
Carefully drill a 1/4" diameter hole in front Port corner of lower engine cowling. [What is the lower engine cowling?] Remove any burrs or sharp edges.
Route tubing thru hole, along electrical wiring to exhaust
cover area. If exhaust cover (See Figure 4) is so
equipped, remove and discard water pressure plug. If
exhaust cover does not have threaded plug, center punch pocket area [what is this referring to?]. Drill an 11/32" hole. Coat a 1/8" NPT pipe
thread tap with grease [does it matter what kind of grease, like white lithium grease?]. Thread tap just deep enough to establish full thread engagement. Apply gasket sealer to threads of elbow fitting (See Figure 3) provided, and install elbow. Barb should point down. Cut tubing to correct length and install on barb."
