I can remove IE also if I wanted to. , I remember netscape being half way decent but that was years ago when I was using it. Don't know how they are now a days. If you can't delete it through windows you most likely can delete it through DOS mode. Seems like I have deleted the IE browser in the past without any flaws.

IE is part of the operating system. It's used to render many of the screens you see in Windows as well as other software. Removing it via Add/Remove programs is not an option. (OK, removing IE7 is an option but it just downgrades to IE6 (if you're lucky)) There are "hacks" out there that remove it but it leaves the OS partially crippled. Not recommended, though I have not tried it personally. DOS mode was a "feature" (bleh) of Win9x.

I use IE7 myself, don't have any issues with it. I like the fact that I can keep a few tags open at once, and shut any one of them at will without losing everything.

I went into the system last night and took IE7 back to what DELL had installed, thought it was fixed for awhile, then "BONG" IE cannot open page. Since this is the only page that is affected, I still thinking it has something to do with things that are loading in my ATT Yahoo/Prodigy home page. If I mess it ws few times it will finally load w/o the error. I am lost at this point. I may try to go back to the Microsoft IE7 support page and do some more reading.

If it were me I'd add their web mail and any other important links from their home page page to my favorites and then set my start page to my favorite search engine or other favorite page and forget about it. There's really no need to set prodigy as your start page unless you're just bent on doing so.

In my favorites (ok bookmarks since I use Firefox) I have a link to Bellsouth's web mail and the page where i manage my account with them. That's really all I need to access on their site. The rest is fluff as far as I'm concerned. My start page is Google. It opens really quick since there's not much more than a search box to load. If I need to search, I search. Everything else is in my bookmarks.

Advise from a pc/adsl support. Switch to Firefox, even if only to check if the problem is your browser or not.
You cannot run windos SE or XP or Vista after completelly removing IE. You will have problem, IE is part of the core OS.
IE is a big security hole anyways. Mozilla is very configurable, it has extensions that you can install and allow you add functionability to the browser. It even has an extension that if you hit a page that can only be rendered by IE you can click a button and will open that page either in a separate IE window or in an enbeded IE windows in firefox. It is very easy to use, but like anything, it will take a little bit of time to get use to the new feel. Corporate shove IE down our throat, but some of us in have our "personal" copy of firefox that we use.

I understand that I386. I am not up to date on some of the computers now a days I admit but I have past experience working in computer repair and it doesn't take me long to figure something out computer wise or mechanic wise for that matter. I didn't say I was going to go out and do this. I meant DOS mode as the command prompt on XP. But I have done some tweaking and removal of windows programs on my own computers in the past. No offense.

Heck my problem with my browser or internet service whatever the heck the problem is is worse then gss036's, I can be on the network or just on one computer on the internet and try to go to a page and it says page cannot be displayed, since I don't smoke in the house I step out have a smoke come back in hit the refresh button and it finally pulls up the webpage I wanted. I tried mozila for a few minutes kept having the same problems.
It stinks doesn't it gss036?

I agree and use Firefox. I started using it for the tabs (years before IE had tabs) and later discovered the addons. I only use a few addons but they really improve my experience.

As a system's administrator I do not force a choice of web browser on any of the users. Most of them still use IE because they are novice users. The big E means "Internet" and there's no telling them any different. Then there are others that have expressed an interest in trying out other browsers. It makes me feel good to see those users who actually get it. A browser is just a tool to view web pages. And they want to try them all and see which they like the best. This philosophy isn't just limited to web browsers either. The ones that are willing to try other browsers are usually interested in experimenting with other types of software too. You can't force that on anyone. They either get it or they don't.

It does boggle the mind at times but I have learned to accept it as some unexplained facet of human nature. I could hand anyone the keys to my truck at work and send them to the store in it. After spending a moment familiarizing themselves with the controls they'd be off and driving. No problem. A browser has an address bar, a home button, forward, and back button. Much more simple to operate than an automobile. Yet I have seen users open Firefox and stare at it blankly for a few moments before "giving up" and using IE.

Ok, I pulled the page up and gave it a good looking over.

1st - there is an error on the page. Internet explorer is probably reporting this to you at the bottom - line 102, char 17. Invalid argument.

This occurs if you go directly to "http://myhome.prodigy.net/" instead of going to "http://www.prodigy.com" first and getting redirected.

They are using java scripting, so if you have scripting disabled/restricted in your security settings this may cause an issue.

They are using cookies - looks to store css information - so if you have cookies disabled, this may cause issues.

The most likely possiblity, due to your symptom (locks up, takes a long time to come up, -or- will come up quickly if you hit refresh a couple of times <shuffles adds>):
They are 'porting out' to other adds. It's possible that one of these adds is taking a long time to load.

They have code in the page for pop up adds. It may be that you have pop ups dissabled and it is trying to pop up something - then having to time out on it.

They pull the latest news - again, if there is an issue with the news server it would cause a delay in loading. I doubt this is the issue though - it would affect everyone and each time too.

I'm not all that good with webstuff anymore, so I probably missed a bunch of stuff.

Have you tried doing a good deep cleaning of your IE stuff - tossing your cookies and clearing your cache? (I use "CCleaner" for doing that sort of thing... IE will tell you that it did it, but won't really.)

Let me start here: When I start the computer and click on the short cut for Prodigy Home page, works ok. When I hit refresh it sometimes goes 'BONG" and will not bring up the page, if I keet hitting refresh as soon as I clear the IE warning, then it will sometimes load the page.
Thinking about the part on the advertising on the page, yes, they hadded a big add on the upper right side of the page when they put up the new home page, so maybe that has some validity, but even when I got to my old page which is stored somewhere and do the refrsh it does the same thing, that is probable because it has the same address as it tells me I have the address when I try to add that to my favorites.
It's a good thing that it isd winter and cold(had snow last night) and rain adn I don't have much else to occupy myself right not. That is the thing about being retired, you have to keep bust doing something.
I have an old computer w/windows 95 on it, maybe I should plug it into the phone line and see what happens?

Hey Popeye, (my hero,,,lol) Can you tell me is there someplace on my puter to store Firefox, so I can switch back & forth between browsers, this way I can see if I like it more or not? I know I tried using it once before but not for long, because it appeared very plain, & dull, so I didn't save it,,, Anyway, looking to try it again, thanks for any help, Mike

Installing firefox or any other browser will not uninstall your current browser. Install it and try it.

It's really not an issue of where to 'save' the installation of Firefox on your computer. Just install the program, it will install into it's own folder under C:\Program Files and place an icon on the desktop. When you run the program, it will announce "Firefox is not your default browser, Do you want to make it your default browser?" If you click on No, Windows Internet Explorer will remain you default web browser, You can freely run either Windows Internet Explorer OR Firefox as you see fit. You can even have them both running at the same time if you really wanted to.

Even if you aswers yes to firefox you will still keep IE installed and at a later time you can set it up as your default browser.

Firefox does not uninstall or harm your machine it all. It's like the difference between Rosie O Donnel and one of the Olsen twins as far as how much fat your computer loads when you open it.

Its also much more secure. What does it hurt to try? I think once you try it, you'll love it, even if it doesn't solve your problem. Did you know that Firefox even gives you the option to import all of your favorites from internet explorer? You don't lose a thing!
