Here's my home connection...

When I tested at work, it didn't do the whole revving up thing, or let me pick what server to test from, so the whole thing may have been a fluke. I didn't know it was supposed to until I just re-tested from home.

Re: Internet Health & Speed Testing.

Man, some of you have some really great internet service. I wish I could get over 1.0 Mbps on a regular basis. That would make me happy.

My neighbor is working with the town to check the contract with the cable provider to see if we can get cable here. He says it will be sometime in 2008, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'll stick with the mobile broadband for now, its the fastest service I can get right now.

I'm installing a PCS amp (cell phone amp) and directional panel antenna. Hopefully that will push the signal up enough to get 1.5 to 2.5 Mbps on a regular basis.

Will post my new speed next week!

BTW, Caveman, get yourself a good excellerator like Propel (see propel.com). Its about $45 year, and will really speed up your basic surfing speed by compressing the heck out of the web page before sending it to you. Propel program on your PC then uncompresses and puts the page on your screen. I used it for years with my ISDN service and it was well worth the $45. Beats the heck out of the free accelerators supplied by most internet (dial up) providers. Also blocks a lot of the animated advertising, so that speeds things up too. It will show an improvement on connections up to about 600Kbps, over that it does nothing.

This is from work. Notice how the upload and download are closer than with DSL. We have a T1.

mark your backwards cable doesnt slowdown ever. unless line problem or a older cmts. dsl loses speed as more people come on line and as far as fiber goes very few people are more then a couple thousand feet from were there coax hits a node then is turned to light the big advantage to fiber is the matinance

Re: Internet Health & Speed Testing.

This evening I put a directional panel antenna in the attic, hooked it up to a Cyfre amp, and this is what I got hitting the NYC server (worlds biggest internet knot).

I know people with DSL that don't get these speeds!!!

31 on my download and 121 on my upload you have to love that blistering speed you get from dialup

I don't know how you got 121k upload from a 56k modem. But it does sound like you need some help in the way of an accelerator. Most ISP's offer a free one, but the one I used was about $40 a year, and was vastly superior to what the ISP's give for free. Check out PROPEL.COM You will not be disappointed.

Yes slide it over to 20,000 and then click optimal setting and apply changes and reboot , Thats all and retest, :)

It says I have to log in with administrator privileges. I don't know what they mean by that or how to do it.
