Re: Internet service proviers?
Cable would be nice, but prices very for different states. I figured it up for all 3 computers that are in the house (and networked together on dial up). To hook all three on the cable internet using the cable companies equipment for all of us to get on line would be around $85. Which is a little to much for us, I like the $21 dollars for the dial up internet (even though the service sucks at times), and I got them all networked together. Now if we get DSL, theres a chance I might look into it, now I hear they are coming up with something better then DSL. By the time they come out with the new internet, we'll probably get DSL in our area.
Cable company's equipment???? All they supply you with, should be the modem.... Buy a router ($50 at Wal-Crap) and away you go.
I have a wireless network setup in the house here, and I don't think I spent more than $100 for everything... All I have is a monthly payment for sevice from my phone company for DSL. And even that's not bad.... $85 for phone, DSL, and Dish Network satellite service.
I installed a wireless internet package at a local campground we frequent in the summer. Had Charter come in, dig in a cable line, give me the modem, and they have the FASTEST TIER of service. Cost $75 to bring in (they've never had ANY cable there, TV or otherwiese), and their monthly service costs them $75, because it's for a business. Then, I have it linked to the router, and wall-aah.... Internet all over the place. (Actually, I had some more to do, but don't want to bore with the details -- like adding a range expander -- and got the flux capacitor, well, fluxxing.)
For residential service, I know the cable, in our area anyway is relatively inexpensive.
Wanna see people cry? Have them go to a campground, use the wireless internet, and then go home to dial-up.
