Welcome to the dark side :) I love my classic. The Touch makes me drool though. Capacities aren't big enough for me yet though.

How do you protect your classic? How wet can it get?

The case I use is this one: http://www.agent18.com/product/ipod-cases/ipod-classic.aspx It is by far the best. DO NOT buy one of the similar ones on eBay. They are half-***** engineered and you don't have access to all the ports. It isn't waterproof though or anything like that. I don't have a stereo in my boat so the iPod hasn't been there yet.

Believe it or not this thing is actually awesome http://www.target.com/Jensen-Shower-Radio-iPod-Dock/dp/B0016BQEC0 my wife bought it for me for father's day last year and it sounds great and is water proof. I will probably use it on my boat this year. The batteries last forever and it actually gets quite loud.

Re: IPOD/MP3 player help!!

The BEST Ipod accessory I have found so far is the Portable Bose Soundock. Its a bit expensive, but the sound is unbelievable. We take it camping and tailgaiting all the time.

I have 4 or 5 different cases that I use depending on what I am doing. I have armband ones, skinny ones to fit in docks, one with a kickstand for when its plugged into a stereo, and a few regular ones.

At work we do a lot of work at the computer. There are 3 of them on our desk and 2 or 3 of us are always back there at any given time. We like to take turns picking songs by adding them to the "on the go" playlist. You do this by pressing and holding the middle button down until the song title/album title/ artist name flashes (depending on which menu you are in). The songs automatically get generated into the playlist. So we each pick a couple of songs, then start the playlist. Then as it is playing you can go back to the menu and search for new songs that you can add. It just keeps adding whatever pick to the end of the playlist. We like to keep what we pick a secret and then try to guess who picked it. Surprisingly, even with 16000 songs on my Ipod, the same song has been picked back to back by different people twice.

Re: IPOD/MP3 player help!!

Hey thanks for the tip. I was wondering how to create a playlist on the ipod itself...knew there had to be a way!!! Thanks again. I have noticed that the little touch pad on the classic doesn't seem to be near as sensitive sometimes as the nano. I talked to a buddy of mine that said his classic has always been the same way also. I thought that maybe something was wrong with mine. Sometimes it acts like it doesn't even wanna work but when it does start working it works fine...anyone else experienced this???

Thanks,

My first classic had a crummy touch pad like that. I used to joke that it wasn't compatible with my finger. However, that classic died and Apple replaced it under warranty. The touch pad on the replacement works fine.

If you ever have any other issues you can always reboot it. Just hold the middle button and the menu button down until the screen goes black and the little apple appears in the middle of the screen. Mine has frozen a few times and that fixed it. I can't tell you how many people come into the store screaming that their Ipod is broke only to have the solution be a simple reboot.
