There is no difference between your behavior and a driver who cuts someone off (nearly causing an accident and bodily injury), and the victim driver chasing him down and punching him in the face at the next red light.

That's road rage. Yours is boat rage. You have no way to justify your actions -- can not be self-defense if you chase someone down and beat them up. You are fortunate you don't now have a criminal record and a decent sized lawsuit to deal with.

This ^^

AGAIN, my issue had nothing to do with being soaked. It was the fact that I was beached and this tard in an attempt to cover me in water stopped 2 feet from my legs hanging in the water off the swim deck, all the while laughing. I do not feel like sacraficing my limbs to damage all for the entertainment of a punk and his friends.

Directed at "Thepotroast",, your replies are nice and diplomatic (border line "cute") but give me a break. If you walk around with a purse long enough, someone's going to take it.

OK, let's all relax or I am going to lock this. Yes, I know I contributed to the recent flavor (I hate when I do that  ), but if it continues to be nasty it's gone . . . Thanks :)

Sooner or later bazooka toting people will all be dead and the early morning glassy waters will all be mine!
:) Not a bazooka, a "flare gun" ! A required piece of equipment! :D

QC, you are far from pissing me off, I just wanted you to see your post from a differnet point of view. We all need to remember that we are out on the water to have fun and relax, well most of us, I do not know about the bass fisherman. I think every thing they do is a competion, but hey if it makes them happy, who am I to judge what they do.

Even if some one "wakes you" It normally is not the end of the world! Yea sometimes it tends to upset you more then others, but we are in boats that move, with few exceptions we should be prepared for that.

I agree everyone take a deep breath and relax. I do not know where everyone is from but, 19 days until the docks open then everything gets better!

Thanks, and for what it's worth I was just suggesting how the OP might make a few more friends on the water . . . :) All good. Maybe this is "docks are closed fever" . . .

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

I know....next time I'm on the river and a barge pushing a 15-barge tow goes by me when I'm fishing and its wake forces me to fire up my outboard and head into the wake, I'm going to follow him until the next lock and then jump on his boat and raise holy cain.

Oh...wait...that would be dumb as heck, wouldn't it. Sometimes, we have to eat a wake. Other times, when it's deliberate and malicious, we can report the behavior after taking down the registration number of the vessel. I have a cell phone in my boat, and the number of the lake patrol. That oughta take care of it.

Where I boat there is always a sheriff boat somewhere in the bay. I am considering getting a radio installed just so I can report A-hole boaters who create dangerous situations like swamping other peoples boats, speeding through a no wake zone, or following behind ski/tubers. Channel 16 right?

Sportsmanphil I hear ya hoss. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. It's like Ol' Tuna always says when it's about to go down, "Gimme your best shot. I can take it."

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

I have a question for QC...

I feel like his scenario will come up a LOT when I'm on the river this summer. Is there a right and wrong way to approach that situation by law, or is it a courtesy thing? Lets say we have the river, which is not extremely wide. If the skiier happens to be within the channel but far off to one side, and you apprach from behind far off to the other, leaving a couple hundred feet of room, is there a "law" stating you should slow back and wait for the skiier to fall, or give up?

I understand there is a courtesy factor, but to what extent. How far away should I be before I can go by without slowing and waiting? How large does the body of water have to be?

I will be honest, if this scenario ever came about, where I was a ways away from the skiier, approaching from behind, and had more than enough room to pass, I most likely would simply go on by, throw a nice wave, and be on my way. Would I get a wave back, or a middle finger here?

I know every scenario is different, I just want to get an idea what I am looking at here. I am far from a mean spirited boater, and would never intentionally **** off, annoy, or put someone in harms way.

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

wow didn't expect all these responses. Yes relax its just a post.
Idk who it was but chasing and beating someone is ridiculous. Maybe fallowing them for 5 min to give them a lesson but hitting the ski with the boat and beating him up? If i saw it i would have helped the "punk".
Anyway thanks for all the responses i see we have all had our experiences and its good to read because i see how most deal with it. I don't get to upset over boating but some people are to stuck up for me.
Shouldn't have to get to the point of being a locked post....

Happy Boating Matt

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

Well my river (Colorado) experience may be different than yours. Also narrow, but most people are not really on their way somewhere as there are dams on both sides of the stretch I am thinking of and only 16 miles apart.

There are laws about how close you can be to a skier, but I think that is a state to state issue. I also struggle with following, as too close makes people nervous, so I try and make it obvious that I am aware and watching. I often stand at the helm momentarily to give that impression . . .

I think the thing that bugs me most is PWCs going all over the place, tearing up the water when they could go the other way even and leave some glass for the skier. But I also recognize that a non-skier may not understand. Very hard to give you specific guidance as each scenario I can imagine is different.

Re: Is it me or are their alot of A hole boaters?

following close is bad...following directly in line behind the rider is real bad.

from someone who has spent alot of time pulling wakeboarders...being obvious, as QC said is very helpful. sometimes there's no room to get around and the driver pulling the skier or wakeboarder is kinda stuck. he can't really change speeds very quickly or course. sometimes you can't even just stop and let the rider drop...because there's a boat following.

get off to the side and you can follow at whatever speed you want but you'll eventually hit the wake. watch out...the closer you are to the boat, the worse the wake will be to cross. some of the big wakeboard boats will drop you off a cliff when you get over the top. the more room the better.

still, on a wide open lake, a skier's got to expect a little cross-traffic.

Nothing about this thread will turn out for the better...it's negative from the beginning, generalizations, etc.

I disagree i didnt start this post being negative but thats your opinion.

sportsmanphil i think you the "punk beater"
Your the kind of A-hole boater I'm talking about one that blows things 100x out of proportion. Like the guy yelling at me on my ski for high idle and forgetting my sticker (its really no big deal) but they have rage like yourself. You obviously have problems with most of the posters hear so why not take everyone's advice and walk a way before you computer goes through the window or something. No reason for this post to be closed but you come back and keep picking at people to **** them off inturn making this a problem post.
Matt

I could care less about a retistration on a boat, nor what you or anyone else cares to idle their boat at. I could care less if a jetski jumps my wake etc etc.

I do care if someone pulls a stuipid stunt that could hurt or kill me or my family.

Why in the world would my computer go through a window......really makes no sense.

Ive called on one person after I was called out.......its called a forum and when one calls out another, expect a reply; I am far from the first on that.

What I find comic is a punch and being tossed in the water is considered "water rage" but the vast majority toting a firearm in the potential of having to shoot someone is just fine.

I have yet to submit a personal slam against anyone here, but have received a few my way. Therefore if this tread gets locked down, I do not feel respnsible.

Im just curious how may "bigger men" here have yet to throw a punch in their life for their own reasons? I would venture to say a majority of you here have once in their life. Who's to say the circumstances to those events would be valid in my or anyone elses eye.
