I can't get my motor to idle, have compression, spark and have done numerous lync and sync's according to manual.
I have noticed that at wot the butterflies aren't 90* or horizotal, when i return the throttle to netural the cam follower doesn't return to idle position. If i adjust the cam follower to line up with the cam mark and move the fast idle lever up and down the follower doesn't return to where it should be.

I have moved the trunion nut but to no avail.I can see movement in the cable when i push on the throttle lever when the fast idle is down... if you know what i mean?

Is possible that the cable is stretched and therefore I can't make the precise adjustments due to this??

Unhook the cable at the motor, and make the adjustments manually.

I would assume that somewhere you should be able to adjust your cable length a bit. Is there a small wheel at the motor end of your cable?

I don't know much about your engine but if it's anything like the older OMCs, there's a spring that keeps tension between the cam follower and the cam on the magneto. Could it be missing?

have done this numerous times but am still getting "play" at the motor end of the cable.

Doesn't sound like my set up and all parts are there according to the diagram on the BRP website.

Link and sync must be done with the cable disconnected. Once all that is correct, it is a matter of getting the control to match the motor. Never readjust the motor to match the control.

Yes the cable can be worn.

You may also have too many bends in the cable. Every bend introduces a bit more play.

The cable length adjustment is the big plastic nut that attaches it to the motor.

The problem may also be within the control itself. Something may be worn or missing.

I've always done the lync and sync with it disconnected, I'll remove the cable from the side of the splashwell so that it runs straight to the motor from the remote, if this doesn't help then I may be back to see what parts to replace inside the remote. thanks F_R

You have a worn out control box. Dismantle it and see where the play is.

How can I see where the play is Haffiman, doesn't the fast idle link in with the throttle when you close up the box?

Or can i spot worn parts with it open, I have no idea what to look for or at...

OK Update.

I removed the control box and remembered that i changed out the fast idle lever as the old one broke due to my clumsiness and corrosion.I disassembled the box and started by swopping over the bushings from the fast idles levers and there was an instant improvement. After going through the diagram I noticed that the plastic spacer was in the wrong place ( my fault:facepalm:)

Rechecked everything and greased and oiled and assembled it. The cable instantly was more responsive and the fast idle lever was stiffer and there was nearly no play.

Redid lync and sync again!! and hooked it all back up. Vast improvement although on pushing the lever down there was still play so I adjusted the trunion nut until the cam follower went back to it's spot. Moved the lever up and down a few times and PRESTO! it did what it was meant to....

Lost daylight so I haven't checked how it has improved the running of the motor, so first thing tomorrow I'll check that so fingers crossed.

Thanks for the help guys.
