Is my gas tank leaking?

I have an 80 gallon tank under the deck of my boat. I was getting trash in the carbs so I started siphoning the fuel out. I got a lot of water. I'm not sure where the water is getting in. Is there a way to test a poly tank for leaks without removing it? I can not remove the tank without cutting into the deck. If isn't leaking I'm considering cutting the tank in half to remove it and replacing it with a 40 gallon tank but if I can be sure the old tank isn't leaking I'll make due as it could be getting water through the sending unit, etc..
Thanks

How much water are you talking about? Could it be an accumulation due to condensation and/or ethanol fuel separation?

I would guess at least half a gallon so far. I'm still trying to drain the tank. Draining it has proved to be a challenge.

Re: Is my gas tank leaking?

I smelled some fumes when I crawled under the console. I did find some loose screws in the sending unit. The bilge is clean. I have only had the boat for a week and I have no idea what the previous owners did to the fuel tank. He told me the tank had water in it but he put 11 gallons of fuel in it anyway. Kind of strange?

I found the leak. The vent was exposed because I was missing the gas filler hatch on the console. I got a new hatch and am moving the vent.
