People get awful touchy when someone suggests avoiding an OMC. Perhaps we should find him a nice Yamaha I/O.......

This is almost as fun to read as the Bayliner vs Searay vs the rest of the world threads.

Re: Is OMC really to be avoided???

I could be wrong here (Don would know for sure probably) but the "Joint Venture" drive was the SX drive. The cone clutch drive that started in 90 on the big blocks and was later used on all the Cobras up until around 94/95 was not the same as the SX (although I think the cone clutch used was a VP design)

The cone clutch that started in 94 was the Volvo joint venture. The previous King Cobra(cone clutch version)was a completely different drive.

LoL @ the past half dozen posts, with GM's overproduction and previous large market share I think America has enough old Chevy engines to last 100 years, tho I did see a couple of sweet sounding Lexus V8 powered boats on the youtube.

I wasnt touchy I dont own an omc anymore but if the boat and powertrain is in good shape omc is no reason to run away from a good deal. and bayliner and searay come off the same production line whats to argue?

to the guys on this board who would rather have a one leg dog than own a omc cobra in some aspects you might be right about how hard the parts are to come by but like someone said above if you don't maintain your motor and out drive it does not matter what the brand is there going to fail and they all cost money to fix some more than others but people have to buy what they can afford not because it has one brand or the other in its what money they have on hand so if its a good buy i say buy it .as long as the motor and out drive runs good
