my gas gauge isnt working 100%. its always on 1/4. I grounded it and made sure the wire was connect to sender. I touch the ground to the sender and the gas gauge went straight to full.

is the sender messed up in the tank? thanks for the help. i already fill it up too..so i know its not 1/4 full.

Re: is sender for gas tank bad?

Ground lead right at the sender (don't ground it for long and use a known good ground source). Does the gauge go to full?
If the gauge goes to full when grounding at sender, check the ground wire at the tank sender (sensor). Easiest way to do this is to supply a good ground to the tank sensor using a jumper lead right to battery neg. post. If the ground proves good, remove sender and measure resistance with ohmmeter from float empty to full position. It should vary in a linear fashion and not go open circuit.

If this helps you fix it.....I take mine medium rare!!!
good luck!

schematic,
i knew it was somehting like that. i took off the wire that was connected to the sender. i thought it was a (+). when i put it directly to the red on the battery, the needle went straight down....... the opporsite way. i sat there for a sec and then said........oh, darn, it must be a (-) so i did that and the need went full force to full. i took out the sender and called it a night. the mosquitoes were killin me. so, i cover it up and then will check the ohm on it tomorrow and then hopefully get that tank gauge problem fixed. thanks for the help. i think you hit it on the head.
