Re: Is the wal-mart brand Supertec TCW 3 a good brand of oil to use.
I always ran the Quiksilver in my Merc, the one day I couldn't find any and put a gallon of superflo in my tank was the day the powerhead blew....coincidence??/ I will never know.
I now have a Yamaha 225, I run nothing but Yamalube.
I look at it this way, I spent 15,000 for the motor.
I can buy Pennzoil for 10-11 dollars a gallon and Yamalube for 18 a gallon. I use 12 gallons a year, so for the 85 dollars more it costs, the piece of mind is worth it to me.
When ya powerhead blows, it is a very EXPENSIVE sound~~!! It makes a LOUD bang, then it gets vewy vewy kwiet~!~!!
I have done A LOT of reading on here about TCW 3 oils, you can read both sides of the debate, but I never really got a straight answer.
I use ring free and Yamalube and hope it pays off in the end.
I know one guy who owns a marina here, sells ONLY pennzoil and that's what he runs in his Twin 225 Johnson's.
We all know Yamaha, Mercury, Johnson and all others don't refine any oils, but are they all the same?????
I would say, at least put Pennzoil in there, but I would stay away from 6 dollar a gallon superflo.
