What state are you in? I need to have this sort of work done on my boat and that price sounds good to me. I am in the central michigan area. Anyone know of a good marine mechanic around these parts?

Sounds good to me. At the end of the 2006 season I had Empire Marine in San Bernardino, CA do my service and it was $588. I just had an annual done at the same dealer this week and about passed out when I got the bill...$904. They claim that they now are doing everything to OME specs so the labor was 5.96 hours VS. 3.5 in 2006. Amazingly though I still got the same used parts back. I told them I would not darken their door again. I have a 2005 Glastron MX 175 with the 3.0 Volvo Penta SX

$900.00 is freakin rape. I think 500.00 is too much based on what they are doing. I don't care what the book says, any good mechanic can pull a drive and lube it in an hour tops. And the tune up should not be several hundred dollars, I mean come on, changing the plugs, checking all the settings and swapping out the cap and rotor is again pretty straight forward. I think far too many shops just assume that because you have a boat you can just afford the high costs but I think it is a shame that so many of them take that attitude. I had a shop rip me off once and I can tell you I will never go there again and I told the 20 people that I know with a boat not to go there either but it still amazes me that they are still in business. I guess there are just a lot of people out there that assume that a boat by its very nature is 10X harder to work on than a car. Now I am not knocking the hard working boat mechanics out there, just the *(&@^#(*&- Hole owners that see this as a huge profit center for their business. 900 dollar tune ups just ruin the whole experience in my opinion.

That's why I posted the name and location of the dealer. When I left there I was aching in places where the sun doesn't shine. I'm hoping word will get out on the forum and I plan on telling every person I know that owns a boat. I know my buddies will say I told you so. They don't think anything more than an oil change is needed every year. Other stuff only based on total hours. I just feel better knowing the service was done per manufacturers specs.
