Re: Is this a reasonable price for a tune up & lube change?
$900.00 is freakin rape. I think 500.00 is too much based on what they are doing. I don't care what the book says, any good mechanic can pull a drive and lube it in an hour tops. And the tune up should not be several hundred dollars, I mean come on, changing the plugs, checking all the settings and swapping out the cap and rotor is again pretty straight forward. I think far too many shops just assume that because you have a boat you can just afford the high costs but I think it is a shame that so many of them take that attitude. I had a shop rip me off once and I can tell you I will never go there again and I told the 20 people that I know with a boat not to go there either but it still amazes me that they are still in business. I guess there are just a lot of people out there that assume that a boat by its very nature is 10X harder to work on than a car. Now I am not knocking the hard working boat mechanics out there, just the *(&@^#(*&- Hole owners that see this as a huge profit center for their business. 900 dollar tune ups just ruin the whole experience in my opinion.
