Just thought I would come on the site and let you all know that I might be able to go new afterall. Though it may be a 2008 model,I am looking at a very
good possibility of being able to get a loan for an A-14 Lund w/ 15 HP Yamaha
four stroke electric start outboard and Shorelandr' trailer package for $5,081.00. Though nothing is definite just yet,but my bank tells me that if I put 20% down(about $1,100.00),they could most likely do the loan. They also
say that it can be paid for in two and a half years with a payment of about
$130.00 to $160.00 a month. Now,...just let me say one last thing before you guys come on and start giving me hell about this. I do have a "Plan B' in place should it not work out. I can take that same $1,100.00 that I originally
have to put down and go used if needed. My bank tells me that since I have money to put down on this little package,it looks very favorable and possible.
I know I just said that earlier, but I just want to reinforce that statement. I have sat down with my personal banker to see if this can work in my budget
and we both have discovered that it is VERY doable,...and STILL be able to meet everyday expenses, plus put money into savings. I know our economy
may not be in the best of shape at the present time, but that is NOT going to stop me from enjoying time on the water,be it in a new boat,OR a used boat.
I work in the grocery business(distribution center for Kroger),so people still have to eat and buy toiletry items, plus laundry soap. I feel safe,jobwise,...unless I would do something really stupid to get canned for,
...no plans of doing that, though! Gotta think positive, guys!

Sounds like a good plan. I think you'll enjoy the new package. Instead of wondering about what problems a previous owner may have left behind, you'll have a factory warranty to cover you.

Maybe you could post a pic of your new rig when you get it.

All the best. - Ken

Re: It just may happen afterall!

is there a big differance in price between the A14 and the WC14 or WD14? both of them are 8 in wider and 6 in longer. they carry 350lbs more weight, wood seats, the WC has a side facing rear seat for more comfort with the tiller, clasic Lund hull design. since you are including a trailer in the package the extra 95lbs hull weight should not be a problem. even if you don't plan to keep the boat for a long time i think your resale value will be the same as the difference in price now. and if you keep the boat i think you will always be glad you upgraded. if your thought is it is going to be a 1 person boat (plus dog of course) the 15hp will still be just fine. you may have to prop down i pitch. 2 people all the time a 20hp would be nicer but not necessary. on a 15hp i would give up the electric start for the bigger boat. just eliminating a starting battery is a third of the differance between the A14 vs WC14. $5100 is sticker shock to me for a basic boat package but last year at the sportsman show the cheapest package there was $6900. that was for a basic 16ft Alumacraft something, flat floor,25hp manual start Merc and trailer. so you are probably right in there price wise for a Lund with an electric start Yamaha. by the way the WC/WD come with a 20 in transom so less water splashing over ther back end of the boat.

I could have probably went with the WC-14 or WD-14,and may not have been that much difference in price,...but since it will be myself in the boat 99% of the time,I find the A-14 to be most affordable for me to go with as
I do plan on keeping this one for a very long time. The only thing now is waiting on an answer from the bank which will come no later than Monday
of next week. Having a down payment of $1,016.00 will put the payment
around $155.00 a month three years or less,...not to mention a far better chance of approval since, again, there is a down payment involved. We'll see
what happens. I still have that "Plan B" in place for a used boat "just in case'.

Nice to see another Lund guy in my area. I'm from Decatur, Indiana and have an '02 16' Mr. Pike. :)

Re: It just may happen afterall!

I personally would go with a used Lund WC with the flat floor. There is a lot more strength in the latter and storage. The WC feels more like a "boat" and the A14 seems more like a rowboat. I bought my Lund Laker 14 with a 20 HP Evinrude, minikota troller, trailer, and lots of other gear all in excellent shape for $3200. Yes, it was 10 years old at the time, but I believe I got more for over $2000 less.

New is nice, but when money is tight, going "used" you might be ahead of the game. Being employed by Krogers, I'm sure you belong to the credit union. With a good employment history, I bet you could easily get a $2500 loan plus your down payment to get a very good used boat.

I too looked at a new A14, but I wanted more for less and got it!

And yes, this was a HUGH issue for me. I wanted as much "freeboard" as possible with at least a 20 inch transom, and the A14 just didn't cut it. I do all my boating on salt water with a lot of boat traffic and waves. I did not want to get swamped!

But, good luck to you either way,

Re: It just may happen afterall!

Because of the state of the economy, there are some very nice deals on new units out there right now. Besides, there is nothing more fun than the "new car smell"....

A couple of years ago, I was in the same boat.... I wanted new but couldn't afford it. I didn't want used but I could afford it. SO, I compromised and bought a 2 year old hold over (non-current) from a dealer...

Instead of the E-tec I originally wanted, I went with a non-current new carb'd Johnson to get me to the price that I originally had budgeted for....

I couldn't be happier!

Lundman, do yourself a favor and get the biggest model you can afford without breaking the bank. You won't believe how much difference just a few inches makes in the size of a boat (1 foot is HUGE).
It doesn't take long at all before you're kicking yourself for not moving up just 1 level, and you'll be doing that no matter what you decided to go with.
You said you fish by yourself 99% of the time but circumstances change rather quickly - you don't know what lies ahead just a year or 2 from now.
Congratulations on your impending purchase, you're buying the best no matter what you decide to go with.
