I'm crock potting this now:
Mrs Bears chicken noodle base
2 diced up carrots, 4 red potatoes w/ skin, 2 stalks celery, 1/2 a white onion, 6 stalks green onions/forgot name, 4 spicy italian turkey sausages, (pre simmered and diced), "some spices", and all the juice from simmering sausages :)
I cant wait, 4 hrs on high, maybe 2 on low............so for $13, Karl and I have dinner for the week! :)

Sounds good! I was talking with my GF late last night about setting up the crockpot today but we didn't have the stuff. Turned out we were gone most of the day and just didn't have time to get the ingredients needed. Next weekend we'll do it for sure though. Great stuff!

A few weeks ago we picked up a pressure cooker.
I remember my Mom cooking all sorts of delishes food with one so felt I could too..

First thing I made was a red wine/beef stock/mushroom & beef roast stew..WOW...Start to in the bowl in just over an hour...So good.

Tonight in fact, I had a big hefty ham bone from earlier in the week, so tossed it in the pressure cooker with pinto beans...Made some cornbread and I was a little kid again..so good. And again, only an hour or so instead of 8 hours of slow torture smelling it all day..

My family grew up with beans and ham and I always love the smell when it's cooking. Torture is a good word!

My cousin told me a story about him and my dad. They were in Wyoming for a few weeks, staying in a motel and had a hot plate in their room. About 6pm one night they decided to put some beans on low to cook overnight for the next days lunch. He said that at about 1am the smell drove them so nuts that they got up and had beans in the middle of the night! :D

One cooking hint... don't salt the beans while they're cooking, it toughens the skin. Salt to taste when serving.

That's how I learned to always clean up my plate and ask for seconds. Take no prisoners!!

The "turkey curry" just about did me in.

We do a lot of crock potting over the winter months when Mrs Ken and I can come home from work and have supper ready to eat.
I always cook Christmas dinner and on Boxing day make my "special" so I'm told turkey soup from all the leftovers.

Yeah, I love making turkey stock from the leftovers. Take the bones from the Thanksgiving turkey, throw it in a big pot with onion, celery, garlic, peppercorns & a couple bay leaves, and simmer it for 6 hours. Drain, cool and put that stock in the refrigerator and the next day it's like jello. Because that's basically what it is-- turkey flavored jello from the collagen in the bones. Great stuff, makes a great base for soups & stews.

Crock pots are the shizzzznit (I apologize for the use of a word that comes straight out of the youth of today :D ).

This is my $10 meal in a pot, AND it lasts me for at least 4 or 5 days:

1 can of drained carrots
1 can of drained peas
1 can of drained green beans
1 can of chili beans
1 can of drained sliced potatoes
1 can of drained corn
1 can of southwest style beans (they have these at wal-mart)
10 slices of bacon
1.5 lbs 80/20 ground chuck
1 16oz bottle of whatever flavor BBQ sauce I feel like using

Cut the bacon into small sections, cook on a griddle. Brown the ground chuck in a skillet, leaving large chunks. Meanwhile, add all other ingredients to the crock-pot and let it begin to cook on low heat. Stir well, to mix all the ingredients. Once bacon and ground chuck are finished cooking/browning, add these to the crock-pot. Take about 1/4 to 1/2 of the liquid fat leftover from the meat and add to the mix. Let cook on low heat for about 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally to avoid stuff sticking to the bottom or burning, and voila! You have one hell of a tasty meal. At least, my dog and I think so. :D

Yep same thing with making the stock. Great base for all kinds of stews, gravies etc.

Venison stew is in the crockpot as we speak. Going to chow down after the parent/teacher conference. I'm not worried, she's getting straight A's.:D
