Re: The official "I HATE WINTER" thread

Hows that JB a little better??

Winter- Pros and cons

Winter brings snow, lots of it here-spring melts snow and fills my well (and then floods the valley)

Winter bring less light in the daytime to work so production goes down- more time to ponder why I am doing what I do.

Winter is cold- more time to spend in bed with the wifey!! :)

Winter brings on activities such as ice fishing, but I cannot troll through ice unless I use the chainsaw to cut myself a trench in the ice, and the fish finder has a heck of a time working. :D

Winter brings on snowmobile season , except I need to fix them GRRR.

Winter brings on ski season. YAY- do you know what they want for a lift ticket these days $75+-

Winter brings on the drive way cleaning- NUFF said on that subject

Snow slides off my tin roof !!!!!!!, do not have to shovel it off any more. :p

If you have some things to add pro or con please do.

(add YUP the snowmobiles are high on the priority list to get fixed)

Re: The official "I HATE WINTER" thread

Winter, no mosquitoes, no yellow flies, no horse flies, sand knats do come out this time of the year, couple more weeks and they are gone also. Most days I can go outside and work without sweating, few days have to have a coat on to be outside, fishing is still good, water a little cool for swimming though. Days are too short, not much we can do about that.

Deck Swabber, the last time I went rock climbing in Carbondale I threw my forearm up to the top of the chimney and got stabbed with 100s of CACTUS spines.

Native cactus = no hard winter.

Kanucks got me beat though. I shouldn't complain too much here in Central Illinois.:p
 halfmoa their are no cactus's here. I'm only 3 hrs. south of you.

We're you by chance rock climbing at Giant City State Park or Fern Clyffe?
I live a mile from Giant City.

Giant City and I couldn't believe it either. A few days later I was conversing with a biologist at Crab Orchard and she said they're native! Couldn't believe it. Little barrel cacti in Illinois!

Re: The official "I HATE WINTER" thread

Well, first of all, there is nothing "official" about this thread. It is a member's thread, not sanctioned by iboats.

I settled in Texas at least partly because Minnesota winters start too early and end too late; the fishing in summers, while great, isn't good enough to keep me there. I also prefer potentially deadly weather that is too hot to that that is too cold.

This past summer, with 107 consecutive days over 100*f, hundreds of my neighbors burned out by wildfires and not enough rain to drown a bug made me question that decision.

Today is cold (40s), gray and rainy. I welcome the rain and am glad I live in Texas.

I don't like these threads that focus on negatives. . .hate this, hate that, make ludicrous macho threats and bashes against those accused in media enhanced scandals, etc.

Let's make some threads about what we feel good about.

I feel good about surviving last summer and I feel good that it is cold and raining.

Seems someone is still a little hot under the collar from summer....:facepalm:

Re: The official "I HATE WINTER" thread

I love winter!!!

If the kids want to play in the snow I haul them up the mountain, let then freeze their butts off for a couple hours, then we come back down to nice 60* weather. I can go out and work outside with just a light jacket on, no sweating to death. The biggie, fishing is better as there are fewer people out on the water. Oh yeah, and the water isn't frozen either :p

What's not to like... :D

I spent 20 years on mountain tops above the tree line working microwave sites back in the day. I threaten the Mrs every February when the frost hits we need to move further south to get away from the cold!!!

Kevin, have you heard anything about the plan for the Striper's? DFG and others have plans to reduce the population significantly. Seems they think the Stripers are eating the smelt now and that's what's causing the reduction in the Salmon population. Others feel it's the farmers pushing for more water. Oddly enough you don't hear much about the shark kill that occured this spring due to too much fresh water in the bay. But hey, the land locked Steelies will soon be comming alive up at Lake Sonoma. That's about the only place I know of you can still keep a Steelhead if you catch one. Nice thing about our area is that even though we enjoy a full four seasons, none of them are harsh enough to stop us from fishing year round. Do you think this is why we call this Paradise or what!

Ahhh Rob....come on man, toughen up, you're Canadian!!!:)
There is nothing like having seasons to adjust and live by and with dude, besides historically.... northern (cold) climates have always advanced faster than hot climates.:D:D
......heck, I know your kidding.

This is an observation I made a few years ago, Bigprairie. Not only do I live in South Florida, but my travels have led me to points much further south. I always said the closer you get to the Equator, life becomes somewhat easier, people get lazier, and nothing gets done.

I know...I've got caught up in this at times myself.

Enjoy your winter the best you can. Growing up I loved it.

Those of you who hate winter just need a better snowmobile! :p

Winter is awesome. The temps right now are in the low eighties rather than mid to high nineties. I am diving tomorrow to teach a class. Yay me!

Re: The official "I HATE WINTER" thread

OK guys, bring it on I got big shoulders!!!

BP, winter lasts 5 minutes in Victoria, and thats not snow you get just "alot" of wet hail !!!! ;) :D

Sasto, you just keep it up bud and I will send you a snow ball or two :)

Wimuskey, I have to pull the carbs on the 700 summit because I have a dead spot off idle and probably dead/watered down gas as well.
(mindya have an old 640 alpine twin track project that I have wanted to finish off for the last couple of years, looks pretty cool going down the trail with the origanal skiboose behind it, kinda like a tractor trailer)

I think its the lack of light and lack of getting out and doing things that get me down the most.
when I head back up north there will be about 4 hours of light at the most to work in.
