Re: James Bond 007 Glastron GT150 Restoration

Nice boat and post. I read an article stating that the record jumping GT 150 had to hit 65 to make the jump. If you look closely at the pic you can see they used a chopper or over the hub prop. The boat actually used a 115 cowling on the one that J. W. Pepper shot.

I have a suggestion. You might find a late 80's to mid 90's cross-charged V4 from 88/90/110/112/115 hp. You can use the old "rudes" cowl and may have to paint the mid section. This would give you a newer motor for reliablity and it would be prop rated so a 110/112/115 would probably outrun the old 135.

Super post!

Thanks

Thanks guys Ill try the ideas. I am curious though why would a newer 115 outrun the old 135?

I think that he means that the stated horsepower on the newer engines, is the more accurate rating...since they moved away from rating the engines at the crank end, and started rating the engines at the prop (where the real world begins)!

For instance...my 1985 Mercruiser 470 engine (flywheel rated @170 HP), is no more powerful than my 2005 Mercruiser 3.0L (prop rated @130 HP).

Just a case of 'truth in advertising'...!

Anyone know the true hp rating of a 1973 135hp Evinrude at the prop?

Your boat and the 135 Evin. are featured in the 100th Anniversary Evinrude brochure, 1973. Very cool.

I have bad news for you. Tilt/trim units for >1978 engines are easy to find. However, for <1978 motors they are VERY difficult to find and when they do turn up (eBay, etc.) they go for over $400 even in unknown working condition. I know this because I've been looking for one for my '73 Johnson 85 for years. I've decided that my $400 would be better put towards one of these http://www.iboats.com/CMC_PT_130_Hy...1684620--**********.857143085--view_id.221439

Well if the ride wasn't hairy enough with a 135hp pushing it at 60mph it will be now with no trim lol Well who wants to live forever right?

Great Job On this project. Just a correction to an earlier post though. "Billy Bob's" boat was not a CV23. It was a CV21. Just a small correction:D
