My son bought a 92 Jeep Cherokee yesterday???It?s had some O.P. work done to it. 4? lift..33? tires ect. But is also a daily driver. He is going to use it mainly off road but wants to drive it on the street also.

Question??The brake lights/ running lights work but when you take off the lens and look at the bulbs.. both filaments are lit on the 2057 bulb without hitting the brake pedal??.so when the headlights are off the brake lights work?but when you turn on the headlights the brake light barely lights up. Both bulbs are new on each side?..both sides (Pass/Driver) react the same.

Any ideas?Thanks

If I remember correctly the ground for the tail lights is under the back seat. Had a 91 XJ that the ground corroded on causing some weird issues, dim lamps included.

Jeep did some really weird things when they were figuring out their wiring, had a buddy that ran a stereo shop and he found out the hard way, there was a wire in the dash that tested as a ground, so he used it, unfortunately when you turned the headlights on it blew the fuse as well as fried a couple of relays, so if you can, make sure you ground directly to the chassis.

Well, another thing to check is that there may have been some rewiring and the taillights are wired backwards. I've seen that. Also as strange as it sounds, it IS possible to force that bulb in backwards. I've actually done that.

Oldjeep spot on.........P.O. had wired a trailer plug up and had it all jacked up.

We replaced the 2- light bulb sockets and undid the trailer plug and all works as it should....

Thanks again for the idea's.

Glad you found it. Always boggles my mind that people bother trying to cobble in trailer wiring when there are so many inexpensive plug and play solutions.
