Joe,

The original 1964 ignition switch burned up for my Johnson. Will any 5 post (lawnmower) switch work? If not, whats a good replacement??? I'm afraid an original replacement will be impossible to find.

Kevin
Keyless in Oklahoma

What horsepower is the engine? Is the ignition a magneto setup or automotive ignition? I know nothing about lawnmower switches.

If the plug wires come out of the bottom of the distributor, it's a magneto.

If they come out of the top side areas, it's an automotive ignition setup.

Which do you have?

You can use the ignition switch that is in use for the present OMC engines, part #508180.

It has:

(B) Battery - 12 supply

(S) Start - Starter Solenoid

(ACC) Accessory - Anything you want to power with 12 volts

(M) Two (2) Magneto terminals. One to ground, one to magneto. The black & black/white you spoke of

(C) Choke - You can leave the choke on the toggle switch or transfer it to this terminal if you prefer.
