Sounds like a stuck needle valve to me. You would need to remove the carb. and clean it up. No idea about the whistle. Is it pumping water once you get it to idle? Rick.

Follow the link above and find your motor and then look at the carb. diagram. The needle is attached to the float. For some reason your float and needle aren't shutting off the gas supply the way they are supposed to. Perhaps the float is not floating anymore. Have a good look and the problem might be obvious. You probably won't have a lot of luck starting it because it will be badly flooded. I was surprised when you said you could get it to idle. Rick.

Re: johnson 1999 5hp help please

time for a carb cleaning and rebuild kit. get the manual if you are mechanically inclined, or pay someone to rebuild the carb. $80-100 per hour.

I don't know, but I often whistle while I'm taking a leak too...just a habit I guess.

rtpogo11: Your 5HP is running good and we all rejoice. Start a new thread with your new subject. No one likes it when these threads go on for ever and change topics and now you even want to change motors with a new set of problems. You will also get better responses with a new thread. Rick.
