My first boat. Just bought it. It has a Johnson 40 HP motor<br />Model # - 40FL-72E (F could be an E)<br />Serial # - J3626597<br />Any help with the id is appreciated in advance. Now what would be the next step for me. Manual?<br />Gas ratio to put in new gas before trying it out?<br />Lube check where? Also doesn't seem to have the vents I have used before for water cups to run it at home. <br /><br />Gas ratio is 50:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 outboard oil. It's water cooled. Water goes in through the fin just behind the propeller (screened part), and you need a flusher that fits it rather than the cups. Tempo 917TFA fits it, and Iboats carries it. Otherwise you can test it in a barrel of water, filled up so the seam between the lower unit and midsection is covered. Water should gush out the large hole in the back of the mid-section a few seconds after the engine starts.<br />Lower unit lube is 90 weight outboard gearcase oil (OMC/BRP 'HiVis' at the Johnson dealer). Do NOT remove the phillips screw from the side of the fin, only the slotted one.<br />Can't beat the factory manuals - they're well worth the extra $. You can get them here:<br />
