I have just reconnected 55 johnson to battery and turned over for the first time in 5 months whilst on trailer. When I connected water hose (using suction cups) over the water inlet holes (fwd of propeller) I expected to see water being pumped through the engine to keep it cool, however only smoke is coming out of the two holes located just beneath the outboard cover at the rear of the outboard. Is water meant to be pumped out of these two holes or not? I thought it was a tell sign that water was being pumped through the engine to keep it cool when the motor was in the water. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have not re-started the motor since.
