I was winterizing my 1962 johnson superseahorse and ran it for a little while with the muffs on and water running. I then turned it off and took off the gas line and turned it back on to let it run out the old gas before storage. It ran for 30 seconds to a minute and then died. It was then that I realized I hadn't turned the water on through the muffs for that last little bit (I know, rookie mistake). How likely is it that the impeller is shredded? It was pretty cold out so I don't worry about it over heating but I do wonder if the impeller or cooling system may have been damaged. Is there any way to check that other than taking the lower unit off? I could run water through it in the spring and see if it is circulating the water. I guess the only way to see it though is by taking the lower unit off.
