Re: Just a little venting

I clean the weeds off my trailer, but there is no law or protocol about it in PA. I am not surprised there is a law that says you have to remove all weeds from your trailer when leaving the ramp, but I did not know about it. I would have been glad is I was boating in WI and someone informed me of the law ... or I would have just said, "thanks, but I will get them when I get home and out of the rain."
Art, the whole reason for removing the weeds is so you don't take them anywhere, and remove them where you picked them up, to avoid cross contamination. If you wait until you get home you may lose some into a drain, or into a stream, and they could end up in another body of water. At least that's my understanding.

http://umaine.edu/publications/2531e/ Milfoil

http://www.iisgcp.org/exoticsp/waterchestnut.htm Water Chestnut

and there are more.

The milfoil is the worst and the smallest piece will propagate and take over a lake.

The only benefit is those two weeds create fantastic fish habitat.

The milfoil and the water chestnut are both cut and harvested........ piled in windrows for 2 years and used as mulch for the farmer's fields

Serious business around here and a HUGE fine....... in VT all it would have taken is one phone call to the police and it would be handled.
