The previous owner got it running in just one pull 2 times. Awesome.. I'm new to boat outboards so got a few questions. I know it runs good, but can't take it on water yet before fine tuning this thing. I got a list of parts i need to replaced according to the many threads on this motor.

1. Spark plug Rj-12YC/14YC.. what's the difference? hotter?

2. 90W marine gear oil. Do i drain the old oil like car oil change? i assume that would be the case...

3. Carb kit. Will this fix the rough idle?

4. 24:1 fuel/oil mix? Do i use the the 2 cycle TCW-3 oil or some special oil?

5. replace fuel lines......... anything else i should do?

***Will this outboard require a fuel primer bulb? I don't see one and forgot to ask the previous owner how i should start this thing if all fuel has been emptied from the carb bowl...

That ain't old--depends on your point of view. It is a 1972. Made by Eska. Bazillions of them were sold.

1. Yes a 14 is hotter than a 12

2. yes

3. Probably not. What do you mean by rough? Vibrates? Misfires? It will vibrate. It is a lawnmower/chainsaw based engine.

4. Plenty of opinions out there on that one. Personally I would use chainsaw oil because it runs much hotter than a water cooled outboard, which is what TC-W3 is made for.

5. Water pump impeller. Yes it is an air cooled engine, but the exhaust is water cooled, and if the pump doesn't work the exhaust gets blazingly hot and then it is like the engine is sitting on a hot stove, overheating the engine too. And it is a chintzy pump.

*****Not familar with that particular model. Does it have an integral tank or a remote tank? If integral, no hose or primer. If remote, yes has a hose and primer.

Thanks a lot F_R.

It has a built in gas tank. I guess the what i call rough idle is actually normal then... this thing runs quite good for being a rusty bucket..
