Heck, maybe the PO thought it was carb problems when it's actually ignition problems...

Re: Just bought wondering if i should cut my looses

ok so i still have'nt snaped any picks yet. but here is an update. i swaped out the carb and manifold for a newer one, new carb leaked, so i rebuilt the old holly, took like 3 rebuild kits to finnaly get it right. motor runs perfect just awsome oil is clear and good. i got the steering cable free'd up aswell. and the tilt works now to, as well as the bildge all the gauges and the air ventilator. the altenator wasen't charging so i replaced that. now i am mechanicly set up. as for the floor im terrified. The floor is rotten and im really worried the whole boat is water logged. the floor is ply wood fiber glassed in. i have no idea how it comes out im asuming i just cut it out. so this is where i am so far. so what do you think im gunna find out when the floor comes out?

soaked foam, rotten stringers,,, the usual :(, just hope the transom isn't shot

Good to hear you got it running and everything checks out, now it's time for the "fun" work. Do some reading in the restoration forum and you will see what you are up against with the soft deck.

BTW, how is the oil looking now that you have run the engine, clean or is water still getting in the oil?

What a great thread...will he? won't he? Is it gonna start? Will it turn? Will he fall thru and never return???

Man, ya just gotta trust these folks. The restoration threads and the pictures provided will just floor ya.

I'm about to go and buy aproject just because of all the positive people and support in this forum.

So...wait it out for more replies or use the search for restorations and look and see.

Ask some pertinent questions and GIVE US SOME PICS!! Not that we don't believe you have a boat, it all adds to the experience of sharing our work with others. Have a good un...Rick :)

is it posible to let it dry out instead of replacing all the stringers and foam and such or will it sink?

Foam will never dry out.

Rotting wood will never stop rotting. It's a fungus.

Nope, it ain't gonna dry out.

Will it sink? Tough to say but the boat will be heavier and weaker.

My old 72 SeaSwirl had wet foam and stringers that were partially rotted. It still got me through some nasty conditions, it was one tough hull, could have failed though, how knows??? I ran it for 10 years and never had a problem, then went to repair the damage and it was too much for me to put into that old tri-hull.

It's really hard to tell if you will have problems because we don't know how much damage is under the deck,,, and you won't know until you do a core sample of the foam and check the stringers/transom. Proper way is to repair the damage before it gets worse,,, or it fails.

Re: Just bought wondering if i should cut my looses

ok....couple of things here.....

glad you stuck with it.

those were my posts under noklu's banner....he is my brother and i was on a puter that was logged in under his name by mistake.

the foam and stringers will never dry out.

DO NOT BE AFRAID

we can walk you right thru this....no big deal at all.

see the hull ext thread...its a 69 srv 190......your boat is from the same hull mold !....its only the cosmetic cap mold that is different.

so......btdt...!

search core sample.

we are gonna have you with a better boat than the 50,000 dollar brand new boats !

Re: Just bought wondering if i should cut my looses

Hi, vr6t3t4,

Just some thoughts from an old hobby boat building couple...

* If you simply don't like the boat, get rid of it. Throw it on Craigslist or FreeCycle for free and let someone else haul it away. Maybe they'll even salvage it.

* If you like the boat, but see it as a hopeless cause/too expensive cause, maybe you should just step back a bit... Maybe give it a few days. Like Ooops says, there are guys on this forum who can help you thru this no prob.

Anyway, I just hope you don't give up because you're discouraged.

Re: Just bought wondering if i should cut my looses

no i like the boat, but from what i have heard its not a job i should not tackle. and its not worth the $ either cause a boat of its age has no value, looks like ill have to buy a maxium or something..
