I just got married last week and my Johnson's never worked better. However, I fear for the longterm safety of my outboards. It's obvious from this forum that "the wife" (or sometimes "the friend") are the root cause of many OMC outboard problems. "The owner" never makes these mistakes. Typical posts:<br /><br />"My wife ran into a stump at WOT and now the lower unit..."<br />"My wife forgot to mix oil in the gas and now the powerhead won't..."<br />"My wife didn't put in the drain plug and now my boat and motor is under 10 feet of..."<br />"My wife backed the boat into the gas grill and the resulting flames engulfed..."<br />"My wife dropped a roller bearing from the pinion gear into the gearcase and now the..."<br /><br />And on and on. What am I gonna do? Any preventive measures I can take?

Re: Just got married

I gotta stick up for the wives, I'm not married but from experience my mom kept my dad from sinking boat himself.....and it's the husband's job to educate the wife on the proper operation and care of his toys! And I've seen guys do many more stupid things than the women on the water or in the garage (speaking from experience again) Ya better hope there aren't many women that are members on here, they'll rip ya a new one! :)

I guess it wasn't clear that I was being facetious about guys posting here with problems but they're not the ones at fault - "the wife" is (sometimes it's "the friend"). Sorry if I angered any wives out there.<br /><br />I really did get married last Saturday. She backs up the boat better than I do.

Re: Just got married

I am the captain of my boat. My wife is the admiral! Whatever you do, make sure she always has a good time on the boat and she does not get splashed or rained on. Don't keep her out too long and make her fish all day. My wife will still go out on the boat with me once in a while after 18 years. Make sure she realizes it is not how big your "Johnson" is, but how you use and take care of it that matters and you should not keep it put away for too long.

Get as much use out of the Johnson as you can, once the wedding cake gets eaten you usually don't get to take it out very often. And you will neaver get to go WOT again, more the likely it will be you and the Johnson back in the garage with nothing to do but polish it and make it look good.
