Motor is 2011 60 hp etec.I had a 17 foot classic cedarstrip boat at the time of my retirement and i treated myself to that motor brand new.At the time the cnd dollar was the same if not 5 cents better than your greenback.Evinrude frowns upon american dealers selling to canadians but with a little slight of hand i bought mine in the states and saved 2500 bucks .The woody was no good for the type of boating i wanted to do so i picked up the ss with a nonrunning 85 and trailer for 500.I will try to find a pic or 2 of the woody when it had a 1982 evinrude 90hp on her.It would hit 51.6 mph by gps!The 60 is set on xd100 setting and she uses so little oil you would think the oil injection is broken.Quite and great on gas too and 2 stroke fumes are non-existent.None,nada ,zip, zilch. No matter how hot or cold it is all it takes is a bump of the key and instant start.

Wow i should order some of that and coat the bottom (underside) of my boat with it in conjunction with using the gluvit on the inside. She would be bone dry forever. Now that ive gotten rid of that wet foam and wet wood and the extra 5 plus gallons of water i carried around the boat should pick up some mph! I knew the boat needed attention just never realised how bad it really was.

Man, you got a sweet deal on that boat. Down here in the Gulf most people run fiberglass. Not many tinnys that I have seen (Barring john boats for hunting). Maybe I will be able to convince the admiral down the road to buy a new engine, but for now, I will have to stick with my 70hp 74' Evinrude.

Can you blame them for running fiberglass in saltwater? Lol. I want to haul my boat down for a run in the Gulf, but I am going to have to make sure she's well sealed before doing so...

I like what you two are thinking, seal the boat inside and out. Not only does it protect the aluminum from corrosion, but it all but guarantees no leaks. I want my bilge pump to sit there as a decoration and to rarely, if ever, get used.

Dont overthink salt water use .If you go down and have a vacation lets say it not going to hurt your boat one iota.I saw many tinnies in British Columbia that were no worse off for a casual odd dip in the ocean.About 99.99999 percent of the horror pics you see are actually from neglect on owners part.

Agree with the neglect on owners. I can't believe the number of boats I drive by left completely open, with the stern pointed to the sky. You would think someone would take care of their investment. In the end, I will be happy with a boat that doesn't fall apart on me. :tongue-new:

Did the boat today on the inside with gluvit.Claimed pot life of 90 minutes at 22c .I got 1 hour at 16c.All the rivets were done with the exception of the side seams which are super tight.Next will be to cut the floor and apply behr stain/sealer(outdoor stuff).Still mulling over getting a couple of quarts of fasco epoxy and doing the underside of boat with that.If i do get it i will have it shipped to soo michigan and cross the border to pick it up and save myself from getting gouged by canadian suppliers.Unless somebody know of a fasco dealer in canada thats reasonable.I couldnt find fasco on iboats?

Unless it's for commercial use, a boat is a horrible investment when bought new. It does nothing but lose value and cost money. That's why I bought mine used and in need of some work. THAT'S an investment. $2,000 purchase price + $2,000 in repair and restoration = $7,000-$8,000 resale price based on some local listings.

But yeah, the neglect is something I don't understand. Just more people who shouldn't own a boat.

I had to drive about 20 miles just to pick up some replacement SS nylocks for the lower unit since they appeared to be original to the motor and surprisingly appeared slightly corroded. Plus, I only use nylocks once, then replace. Not counting taking them off to readjust something. It's a personal preference as I've seen people say not to use them more than twice, and even more who reuse them until they stop holding. I don't like the idea of them vibrating loose and possible losing my LU while at WOT... I can't imagine I'd even have a salvageable motor after that. I'm committed to maintaining our boat, no matter how far I have to drive for a part, or what parts I need. The trailer on the other hand...That just has to work and be safe. Not going all out on that until the boat gets repainted. Then it's new rollers and bunks.

Did you mix it all at once? If you mix a large quantity and leave it sitting in the pot without separating it, the heat it creates can cause it to kick early; however, I agree that seems a little early for that temp. Don't forget to do a leak test before putting the floor back on. Don't want to repair everything and then find out you have some leaks.

That stinks, make sure you give everything a good sanding and vinegar bath to get rid of any oil so it adheres well.

Have to give credit to Woodonglass and Watermann. I just revived the idea. Did you get any color tint to go with it? I am guessing you ordered the 9XN. Let me know what you think of it and if it covers as much as they say.

YEP the 9xn im going to carefully measure it and use only 1 quart at a time so as to not waste any as it could be used for other stuff also in the future. No tint as im thinking of other uses also.Besides if your looking at the bottom of my boat it means you fell in the water, lol.

when i get the fasco im going to do the edges of the wood floor with it as it should make a great barrier against water expecially on the edges where water intrusion can cause the most damage.Theres a couple of pic on my account you can see where the gluvit was applied as it turned slightly golden.https://www.flickr.com/photos/156675797@N06/

I'm in tin heaven finding all these SS rebuilds! But this general resto forum gobbles up tinnies with all the rotten glassers being redone.

Hey rude in your flickr you can post up pics easily rather than showing only a link, using the share, BBcode, copy it and then paste the BBcode in the forum text box, comes out looking like this...

So you can purchase tint to apply per quart or by the gallon so you can change colors however you want if you measure out of the 9XN, but I see your point about not seeing the bottom. We can just say its camouflage for the fish!!!!

Looks like you got the Gulvit on nicely. Wonder if 9XN will be the same amber as Gulvit. Wouldn?t that be nice.
