Helluva salesman wasn't he :p :p

What they meant was "These will get them off our shelves faster, since they don't fit anything and we have had them in inventory for years."

That part number fit's lots of things. The '66-'70 2.5L Chevy II/Nova. The Chevy LUV pickup. The early 80's S-10 with the Isuzu 1.9L. The Chevy Metro. The Chevy Spectrum. The rebadged 80's Nova.

If the OP has any of those vehicles he's now got a set a spark plugs with only 2 minutes on them.:D

1. First of all get a hold of the manual for your engine, and buy the correct spark plugs. Just buying the same size as the last ones used doesn't really mean you are using the correct plug.

2) Gap the plugs as per the manual specification. They will probably be the wrong gap size when you buy them. Do you know how to gap a plug? (it's easy)

Just ordered exact same plugs that were in there ... And I'm really not too sure .. I assume its using a gap too as a spacer and tapping the the plug lightly until proper gap is there

What's the part number of the original plugs that were installed? Like the previous poster stated, just because the original plugs in there seemed to work, doesn't mean they were correct.

You stated that the thread length was the same as the mis-matched plugs that you installed. Like Don pointed out, the witness marks from the carbon on the picture of the plug you posted show that the plug is most likely too long for your cylinder head. Your head needs the correct length spark plug installed. If the threads are too long, then you are placing the business end of the plug too far into the combustion chamber, and your also putting sharp edges into the combustion chambers (the threads) that will promote hot spots and pre-combustion.

Theoretically, if you could look at the other side of the cylinder head with the plug installed, the base of the plug should be flush with the cylinder head with only the electrode and ground strap being exposed in the combustion chamber.

The actual part installed was r43 xl .. which is the wrong plug in the first place which made made get the wrong replacements going back again to get Mr43 t

Re: just put in new plugs and engine seems to almost drown when revving

Assuming you are talking about the 88 3.0L in your profile, you should have the AC MR43T or NGK BR6FS (Short) plugs in your engine.

Hey don i have a problem... I got the. Mr43 t and they didn't fit.....now I got the ngk browse6fs and they don't fit either .... I am putting the plug in there and twisting it by hand and it just spins the threads are not grabbing the inside to tighten. It seems like they are hitting the part right above the threads on the plug not allowing it to go in all the way .... What am I doing wrong here

Hey don u have a problem...

I don't have a problem, you do. I gave you the information available from Mercs parts and service manuals. Now, if someone has installed a different head on your engine, I can't tell from your posts. But I do know spark plug threads should not extend into the cylinder.

Can you take a nice closeup picture of the spark plug hole in the head?

If you have an older head with a non tapered seat, you would need the AC CR44N spark plug. That head was used from 72-78

It's hard to tell, can you take a picture in 3D ????? :p :p

Anyway, can you take a picture of one of your MR43T spark plugs like you did in your very first post of this thread. For a side by side comparison.
