My philosophy is if one / does cannot appreciate times that are cold then one cannot fully appreciate the warm. It will still be cold and yall just be pissy about it. Embrace what you cannot change and it becomes a place of comfort rather than angst.

I will admit the nature around the plant can be quite pretty. Unrelated but the river that feeds the bay I grew up on is in the tree line. Funny how that happens. We ended up in the area that got about 9". Town just a mile north totaled 8.6" and by the time it was done I'd say that was correct.20251214_105740(1).jpg

I hit a deer on the way to work this morning or I should say a deer hit me. Dam thing ran right into the side of me. I saw it spinning around in the road in my mirror then it got up and walked away. They are tough. Rough way to start the day for both of us. 🤬

That sucks. It happens fast that’s for sure. I’ve hit three total. Two of them I was on a motorcycle.

A few years back, I had what I thought was a mirror on a truck coming the opposite direction hit the side of my vehicle. It was dark so visibility was not great. I stopped as did the oncoming driver, we chatted for a couple minutes and he told me a deer ran into the side of my truck. Sure enough a large dent the size of a basketball right in my side door about two feet off the ground, to low for a mirror. Shinning a flashlight out into the field there stood a big buck shaking his head. Appeared to have a broken horn on one side. Lucky for me, I was able to pip the dent back out with a toilet plunger..
Couldn't wait to get to work to check out my pants, scary as he'll when he hit, never saw him coming !

Times have sure changed. My insurance company didn’t even send an adjuster out to look at the truck. They just had me send them pics and will do the claim remotely.
Now the trick will be to get it fixed in less than 6 months. We only have a couple of body shops here and they are swamped. I don’t really want to take it off the island so I guess I’m lucky that I can still drive it. Nothing a bit of duct tape and wire didn’t care of of to get me back on the road.

That sucks, glad you're not injured. Yes, the deer always hit the vehicle (as far as you tell the insurance company (although they really don't care bout that anymore)

I had a friend who had a deer run out in front of her and she came to a complete stop on the road, only to hear a thump and feel the car jolt. Deer ran right into her passenger side rear door. $3800 damage occurred while sitting still! LOL!

Edit: She heard it UNDER the car and saw it get up and run away. She was bummed she didn't even get any meat from the deer and damage.

In this case it did hit me. Thing was running full blast when it came out of the woods. I didn’t even have a chance to hit the brakes.

I was driving up to the F-1 race in Montreal QC like we do every year and driving a rental Chrysler Pacifica (nice vehicle for trips by the way). After we crossed the Canadian border and were in an area of mostly farms (La Prairie I think) at about 1:00 AM this deer, or moose runs out in the middle of the road, and I am able to avoid him. Then, he decided to come after me, runs in front of me AGAIN, I avoid him AGAIN, then he charges at the rear of the van, so I speed up and then I guess he lost interest. Never had that happen before in many trips from Long Island NY to Montreal QC and back!

In Roanoke area on December14 and took these of some Loco's at rest.
I have an original Lionel O gauge J Class with the Powhatan Arrow passenger set. Got the engine for Christmas I think around 1962 or so, used it as child and forgot about it till about '94, pulled it out and rewired it, everything worked including the light, smoke and whistle. Finally bought the passenger set last Christmas!

I didn't take a long shot of the 1218 but its impressive machine. I found this ranking of the biggest locomotives. The 1218 'for its size' and date of introduction was a powerful locomotive.

I saw on its placard that it was displayed at the 1939 Worlds Fair. At that time, being brand new and all I bet it made quite the impression on fair goers.
