Maybe I can shed some light on this reoccuring question. (We shall see.)
Oil filter "Name Brands" are almost meaningless as there are only a handful of manufactures. They are simply re-branded with the retail name.
Here is a bit of a breakdown on who makes what.
Honeywell - Sells as Fram Extra Guard, Fram Tough Guard, Fram Double Guard, Fram High Mileage, Pennzoil, Quaker State.
Baldwin/Hasting - Sells as Baldwin/Hastings.
Champion Labs - Sells as Bosch, Car and Driver, Champ, Deutsch, AC Delco, K&N, Mobile 1, and STP.
Wix (Dana) - Sells as Carquest, NAPA, WIX.
Purolator - Sells as Bosch, Motorcraft, PowerFlo, ProLine, Purolator Premium Plus, Purolator Pure One, Quaker State, Sierra.
Which is "best"? Man thats tough because someone is going to jump up and argue with anything said but, according to the SAE testing (Designation J1858) done in 2008 the best (over all testing of various sizes and configurations) flow rates with the best filtration is made by, are you ready? Wix.
Wix also has a better design (patented) on the pressure relief valve and anti-flowback valve. (They are the only automotive filter maker using a metal coiled spring.)
Sure you can spend lots more money on a "name brand" if you like, but as stated above you are paying for the name.
