I was gathering up my goodies to go grind on her again today, in my stuff i keep a bottle of moisturiser, slather it on before grinding the dust doesnt seem to itch as bad after using this, we used some kinda barrier cream in the Navy when grinding not sure what it was worked pretty good as well, try it and let me know what you think.

I'll keep that in mind. I wore a tyvek suit, goggles, and cartridge respirator (along with a long sleeve shirt and jeans underneath) so I'm well protected but I usually didn't wear gloves because the dust just didn't bother my hands

Re: keep ya from itchin

i have read a lot on here about people taking precausions when grinding and cutting glass to keep from itching, but honestly (knocking on wood) I haven't had much itching problems. I wear a tyvek style suit, gloves, googles and respirator when i'm really cutting or grinding and i'm throwing a lot of dust around but I have had acouple times when I needed to do a quick grind or cut and I didnt feel like completely gearing up for it so I just put on the respirator and googles. I have a small laundry style tub in my garage and I just walk over to it every now and then and rinse off my arms, face, neck and whatever with cold water......havent had any inching problems yet ;)

Ayuh,.. Anything you can put on to keep the dust off your skin is a Big plus...
Also, when done,... Start your shower a tad Colder than normal for the 1st rinse off,...
Getting rid of most of it before cranking up the Hot water, keeps it outa the skin's pores...

Lol, you even have showering down to a fine art.:D

Another thing is if you've already gotten the "itch" say on your forearms you can use duct tape or any really sticky tape. Just put it on and pull it off a few times. It sounds like self abuse but it really helps relieve the itch by pulling out embedded micro fibers. ;)

Ahhh no worries. :p PR88 is available to the public. Automotive parts supply stores carry it, Industrial supply. I can't say where it is in your area though. Here it's about 25-30 bucks for a 1 liter jar. Works well but if your hands get wet it's slicker than dog crap on a linoleum floor. I have used it on my forehead with no issues to my skin. I notice in hot weather and sweating lots you need to wash and re-apply periodically.

Oh and stylesabu, no need to shave.

I have used this on my hans many times only to see black Sika-Flex wash right off with a little scrubbing. Now that is something to be said.

Ayuh,... I've sanded,+ ground fiberglass a few times....
Obviously,... You're Not a very hairy fella, huh,..??
It would take 2 rolls of duct tape to just get down to the skin on My arms,...
Muchless Anywhere else...

Re: keep ya from itchin

Things I've learned recently doing a ton of grinding on my boat. I'm to the point of grinding the entire interior hull, and I've generated half a garbage bag of white dust so far.

1) Cover up all over with a tyvek suit or clothes.
2) Use talc or cream beforehand on exposed skin
3) Seal wrists and other loose spots with tape (I shaved my wrists for this)
4) KEEP THE DUST OUT OF THE AIR

Despite the fact that you're wearing a respirator (not one of those cheesy little dust masks) if the dust builds up in the air enough it can really make your eyes and skin uncomfortable. To the point of damage, almost.

Of course, none of the above stops dust from coming in anywhere the tape tears, or you have a hole in your clothes, etc.

If you get a lot of glass on you (IE white dusty skin color) then you're stuck with some itching. Duct tape and the like take off some fibers, but they can actually push other fibers in farther. The shower helps, as does "brushing" the stuff off with a fine fabric, but you won't get it all.

One thing that seems to help is teaching a 45 minute class underwater, for those of you that are SCUBA instructors :)

Well of course I have hair on my arms but it's usually the unhairy part of the underside of my forearms that get itchy. But I get your point. Nothing like a good waxing ay?
