I want to connect my knot meter to the engine. So I do not need any pitot festtet your boat. I see that there are holes in the underwater housing on the opposite side of the propeller is well and measure the speed of the boat is not it? So I wonder that is how I connect this?

Is a johnson 90 hp v4 ocean runner 1995 mod.

The only thing connected to the motor is a tachometer for engine RPM's.
The motor does not know how fast the boat is going, as that depends on the propeller pitch, the size and weight of the boat, the wind, etc.

The pitot tube or paddle wheel for the speedometer measures the pressure of the water running under the boat to determine speed and is not part of the motor.

not entirely correct.if you look at the back of the motor lower down you might see a tube with a cap on it sticking out.if my camera was working id take a picture but you cant miss it if you have one .when i say the back of the motor i really mean the area closest to the transom.any who if memory serves me correct you can hook up a speedo tube to it and it measures water pressure for your speedo readings.either way will work but remember one thing, speedo,s are notoriously inaccurate.mine says im going 30 mph when im really going 47 by gps.

well...i have a 1995 ocean runner 115 and I actually have the lower unit here at work because i am rebuilding it. i took some pictures of my LU housing, and am in the process of trying to email them to myself via my too sophisticated for me..CELL PHONE!!!

but it does not have the hole in it like yours does.. and that hole would go into the cavity that is below the housing for the shift rod and is exposed to LU oil!!!

heres a picture of my LU housing 1995 ocean runner..

this is where the hole would theoretically come through!!

here is the view from the other side...no hole!!!

Hey bob
Thanks for helping me, but I actually dont understand what you want to say...
Sorry, You say that your LU hous dont have that. Thats verry werd, because the 90 and 115 is the same engine isnt it?
Its just 1 year between them too.

But what do you think about the holde do you think its possible to make a new end on it?

Re: knot meter on motor? 90 hk 96

well I actually have a 1997 90 hp Ocean Pro, AND a 1995 115 hp Ocean Runner...which are essentially the same motor I took the LU off the 97 90 hp and put it on the 115 hp.

and am rebuilding the original 115 hp LU..

Ill check when i get home if the 97 90 hp lower unit housing has the hole...

the LU housing i took pictures of actually have two smaller holes on either side that run perpendicular to the holw you have and they allow the LU to drain...but are very small in dia.

in any case the hole you allude to on your motor surely has NOTHING to do with checking speed!!!!!!

I doubt there was ever anything on the motor itself for checking speed!!!

you are probably chasing your tail on this one..

if you need or want to check your boats speed...you will have to look at a seperate device sold for just that purpose..
