Re: L6 250/292 ?
Just as a point of information, many years ago I had an 81' Caddy Eldorado with a O.E. 4.3 Buick designed V6 with a standard computerized Rochester Quadrajet 4bbl.carb. It was a good combo, delivering a peppy ride, with good power, & economy, in this lighter chassis, in fact better then the O.E. Caddy 350V8, although the car gave me fits with electrical problems. Apparently GM in their infinite wisdom decided the carb was too big for the motor, so they put a governer on it to only allow the secondaries to open a certain amount, not fully. I have no idea if they did anything with the jetting, but it was my wife's car at the time so I didn't bother to mess with it, except replace a bad sensor in the body of the carb.
One more item, the 305 Chevy V8, is a smaller bore version (3.5" I think) of the Chevy 350 V8, using the same 3.48" stroke crank, and uses smaller valve heads (non Vortec, early design's), because of this, for it's size it is a long stoke motor, and delivers better fuel economy, and a bit less power then the 350. In fact, IMO it's a toss up that it might give better economy then the 4.3 (262") V6 due to the V6's large 4" bore, and that same 3.48" stroke crank. It's a proven fact, long stroke motors produce better torque, & milage, then comparable design's.
