Re: Lake Mead Water Level???

Who wrote that article????

But as Eyewitness News reported last month, there is a bit of a mystery about the water level at Lake Mead, especially compared to other reservoirs on the Colorado River. Why would the water level at Lake Mead go down while the level at Lake Powell and other places goes up? Why is mead at 43-percent capacity while Powell is close to full?

I was up in Page last week and Powell is NO WHERE close to full.

To the original question, Mead is low. It's been years since I've been out in the Boulder Basin and I couldn't believe the change.

We were out there today. The water level is up a foot or two since early summer. Noticeable at Sandy Cove. My GPS put the lake at 1094. But that's not very accurate.

Where are you going, staying and launching? What is your boat size and draft?

Re: Lake Mead Water Level???

I was thinking about camping at Boulder Beach and launching over there at the Marina? My boat has a 2'10"ft draft, Maxum 1900SR.

Would appreciate any advice....

Launching at Boulder has probably gotten a little better with the current water level. We launch at Callville Bay. Not as busy and deeper water faster. I see alot of bigger boats launch at Boulder without any problems. Callville has some camping as well. Boulder obviously has more use. Callville was 112 today.

Thanks for the 411...really enjoy this lake, so sad about the water level.

Don't know if RoyR is looking for a fee camp site with bathrooms, showers and water or a spot on the beach. I like Sandy Cove myself, but has been way too hot for me to camp there (this time of year).

My wife, I and our friends camped over by Temple Bar in August years ago,,, it was 95* at 3am. Only way to escape the heat was to do a midnight skinny-dip, there was a full moon that night :D

Re: Lake Mead Water Level???

I got off the lake yesterday. Water level, other than the ramps, continues to be a non-issue for me. We had great beaches in a lot of spots and Wishing Well is spectacular at this level. As close to a Powell experience as you can get without actually going.

I was at Callville. While launching was cake, retrieving almost kicked me arse. I have a 1/2 ton pick-up and a 23 footer and the gravel was breaking loose immediately after the grate which was only big enough for the rear wheels to be on. Finally got her out by shifting weight to the rear wheels, but it was touch and go. Lots of flying stuff and a bunch of noise . . . I do not have that same issue at Hemenway or Boulder.

Right side, that worked. 2nd would not work for me on the left side.

I may have watched you trying to get out of the water. Each side of the dock has good solid concrete ramp. The 2nd and 3rd lanes to the right of the dock don't. I watch a few trucks spin their wheels there. I try to stick with the lanes next to the dock for retrieval. Any lane for launching. Boulder gets nuts on weekends and you have to back way out at Hemenway to launch and retrieve. Of course, Callville was nuts on Saturday, but nearly as bad.

Re: Lake Mead Water Level???

You were there Friday night around 5:00 PM? I was in a white GMC Pick-up. I had my friend back down the ramp so we could get another run at it, I was in the boat. When we went back down to try again she floated and I hung up on a strake and that caused even more stuff. First try he tore up the ramp pretty good. When he jockeyed it over to the right, we got it going and got up to where I thought the concrete started. But there is no concrete at the waterline as far as I could tell  Pointing up, the left side of the dock has two lanes, the right of the two had two grates while the left side had one. Moving over to the two was how we got going.

Agree on Hemenway, but the same reason you have to go out far makes traction a non-discussion.

I meant 2nd gear of the truck takes the tourqe off the wheels less spinning

I understood, first thing we tried, could not get traction on the left side of the ramp even in 2nd . . . Gravel flyin' everywhere

Yeah, when retrieving at Callville, try to stay adjacent to the dock (either side). Launching, you can use the far right (facing water). Otherwise, you have a greater chance of getting stuck when pulling bigger boats.
