Re: Lake Mead

I think from the description it is Kline Hole. Glory and Kline are adjacent, Glory is the southern of the two and both have great sand.

Edit: that's the link I was trying to find Dan . . . struggling tonight, thanks.

Re: Lake Mead

Kind of weird as I've been hitting Mohave for the past few years and nothing really changes there, lake only fluctuates about 10', not 120'.
It's determined by the hydraulic head required by the generators. Havasu only changes less than 5 ft. . . .

That makes sense, think I've marked 500+' depth at Mead before, but nothing over 200 at Mohave.

Re: Lake Mead

I always thought the "holes" were referencing the land features, holes in the cliffs, but the map shows them out in the water.
I always thought they were fishing "holes" . . . Funny.

Sweet,,, PM coming through...
Yeah, I have a couple of really detailed ones and there is a 120' contour I believe that is right where the lake is now . . .

Re: Lake Mead

Niiice map. I checked it out and it shows the "holes" on shore, so I guess they are referencing the land marks.

Though I do like your thinking, fishing holes would be better... LOL

Oh yeah,,, That map I linked up is a POS to the one QC has. My map says "Do Not Use For Navigation",,, ummmm yeah! Close, but not close enough.

Red, that hole up on the ridge above the restrooms (or close by) is either Glory or Klein Hole. Don't know which is which, but do remember them.

that hole, sticking out high on the point, crumbled a few years ago. floating restroom is stil there. ive never used it, but its a good reference point.

You can see how long it's been since I've been up there :D Glad you mentioned it, I would have been looking all around for it and up in St George by the time I realized I went too far...

Re: Lake Mead

I was looking at the bigger map that I sent you Dan and sometimes they label Bays on the point, so I don't think you can infer that the "hole" is a land formation from the placement of the label . . .

Redone, I edited my post up there, so it doesn't make sense anymore. PM me your email addy I and I'll send the charts to you. The biggest one is 5MB but they have great detail. The contour I referred to is actually a blue shaded area that lines up at 1100 ft., so pretty indicative of this lake level. It is actually from the US Gov't online access to Nautical charts. Good stuff.

if you remember how high up and unique it was, you would prob. still see whats left of it. Im trying to find a really cool pic of it, before it crumbled but i dont know if i'll be able to or not.

You may be right, could be something from the old days, before the lake was filled. IE; Callville Marina is from to old Fort Callville, Bonelli Ferry now Bonelli bay. Maybe some old mining claims, kind of sounds like mining lingo, Glory Hole, Kline Hole... Just a SWAG :D

Re: Lake Mead

I wonder if anyone has been using any metal detectors any where around the lake? There must be a bunch of anchors, sinkers and who knows what else if you wanted to spend the time..I have seen several old boats laying on their side that sunk years ago..Found a couple anchors but this was in a small area of the lake..

Like a B52 Bomber? :)

haha that would be sweet! ive never seen it, but my dad and sister have been out at echo bay when the air force practices their paratrooping into water. they have their own rescue boat and all. its supposed to be pretty neat, and they have even stopped and talked with my dad before. now that would be cool. maybe find the old EZUP that we lost out there 18 years ago, that would be neat lol.

Re: Lake Mead

No joking there, it's down in the bottom of the lake somewhere south of Echo in the virgin basin,,, exactly where I don't know. Saw a TV program on it and I think LMNRA's site has some info on it. Need to get a side scanning fish finder :D

I found a rusty 15# anchor that's sitting in our planter box out front, the arm is completely rusted shut but I think it looks cool.

I've been buzzed by the Air Force/paratrooper guys while night fishing up at Echo too. Something cool to see and break up the evening, they were dropping up by the Meadows across from Overton Beach when I saw them. One night we heard a loud explosion way back in the mountains on the AZ side, the kind of explosion you can feel in your chest, even rippled the water, freaky.

So how about wild life? The cove I used to go to had 3 resident burros, saw them there every morning. One night I heard a cougar up on shore growling and carrying on, kind of spooky and sure glad we were anchored 100' off shore. I tried to locate him with the spot light, but couldn't find him. Few months go by and we only see 2 burros in the cove. Guess the cougar had a meal...

Re: Lake Mead

wow, had no idea. its a B29 that is restricted to divers with permits only i guess. just read up on it. very interesting. they even give coordinates to where no diving is allowed. Thats really cool, its neat learning stuff like that.
