Re: Lake Mead

red; found these for sale. have you seen them up close? maybe out on the lake or passing the marina on your way out. they dont look as fancy as forever's but the prices dont seem to bad either.
the trouble with buying one now is your not going to know what forever is going to do with the slip prices. i dont think they can go to nut because of the park service.

Re: Lake Mead

dan;the forever peeps jill and i dealt with at callvill just didn't make us want to come back. the fellow at the fuel dock was nice but the store, restaurant, and guy in the office. well ---------
i will say the temple bar crew was just like the rest of the peeps we saw at all the other marinas, have been to all. lake mead,LVBM, temple and echo bay.

I don't deal with the marina staff too often, but know what you are talking about. Not wanting to rent a slip for a few weeks/months on the off season, or helping someone who needs assistance loading/unloading? Sounds like bad customer service to me. I'd rather spend my $ somewhere that you feel like they appreciate your business.

What was the deal with the 7 Clowns comment from the other marina(s), were they not keeping up with maintenance? Just curious of why they would say that, besides being the competition. I feel the exact opposite and like 7 Crown opposed to Forever.

i have seen all the models out there...the sierra is the nicest. the grand sierra is the big boy, but they dont show any for sale. the 2 lowest priced ones are the only ones at echo bay for sale i believe. hey, just pick up the one for $25,000 and i'll do the maintenance/upkeep on it :D. i would imagine the slip fees are in regulation, since the DOW or NPS ulitmately controls the marina, and the resorts just lease and run it.

We rented a Sierra for 4 days and it was nice, plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids. The one we rented had twin 2-stroke outboards so that would be a huge point against buying one, if they still have 2-strokes (2012 LMNRA 2-stroke ban). A pair of 60HP 4 strokes would be expensive. I don't know if the I/O's would be any better as it would be difficult to service the I/O on a houseboat, have to pull the boat to work on the I/O and I imagine that in itself would be quite an undertaking.

Re: Lake Mead

I think those I/Os are OMC Stringers if you can believe that . . .

I had a mini run in with a real cranky woman employee at Callville down by the fuel docks. I was waiting for her to pull out of a slip so I could drop someobody off to pick up some ice and she got all insistent that I couldn't go in that slip. Well all I intended to do was drop the guy, so I just went to the end of a fuel finger and dropped him and she was shaking her head at me like I had committed some mortal sin. I was very close to complaining about her to management but a guy at the Fuel docks saw the whole thing and told me just to drop off at the fuel docks next time so that she wouldn't be a problem. I told him that I never want to be in the way around fuel docks and why wouldn't they have a courtesy slip by the store in the first flippin' place? Really stupid and she was simply rude . . . We've rented houseboats there a bunch of times, and I kept thinking she didn't know whether I had one then even though that shouldn't matter . . .

at one point before i ever got to lake mead marina and before they moved from boulder bay 7 crowns owned lake mead marina. as you probably know.

many of the older boaters that had been in the marina when 7 crowns ran it liked the way its run and maintained better now. the restaurant- the utilities up keep- and the general condition of the docks.

personally i couldn't and shouldn't have said. it was common for them to be refereed to as 7 clowns and that's where i picked it up.

No problem on the comment, I was curious as to how it came about. For the price Forever charges, they should have better up keep on the facilities. Seems to me that Crown was more budget priced and Forever is, well how do I say it, too expensive for my tastes. $500-800/day for a house boat, $400/day for a ski boat, $200+ for a fishing boat

I never spent too much time at the marina (launching and loading is about it) so the nicer facilities never meant much to me.

Wow..Lots of action...I have rented both but preferred the 7 crowns because you could run thru them soaking wet and not worry about a thing....Glad to hear about the hot weather...Will be on the lake 9/15/09...

Re: Lake Mead

Middle of September should be nice, less traffic since school is in session and the holiday long forgotten. Where are you going?

We went 4-5 miles up from Echo on the AZ side mid-October a few years ago and it was niiiiice. Not much traffic, temps were in the 80's, perfect beach. Probably different now that the lake has dropped another 20-30' since then.

Small world... LOL The floating outhouse is a mile or 2 south of where I usually go. If you get on Google earth, find Black Ridge Island on the NV side, then look at the AZ side and find the big cove that points (opens up) directly at the island,,, that's it! It's just about the 1/2 way point between Echo and Overton beach, on the AZ side.

yep, we found that spot last time we were out. we headed up to overton, and just past the island we saw some nice beaches with some boats there, on the AZ side. thats how we find the nice ones, look to see where other boats go. but the one with the outhouse is the best yet......ill be checking out your place next time :D

Re: Lake Mead

Yeah QC, it's right by the floating restroom, unless they moved it, floating restroom that is :D.

Been a few years since I've been up there and I'm amazed on how the lake has changed. Just spent some time on google earth and several places I used to fish are high and dry. An island I used to troll around is just a pinnacle now, connected to shore.

Kind of weird as I've been hitting Mohave for the past few years and nothing really changes there, lake only fluctuates about 10', not 120'.

Red, that hole up on the ridge above the restrooms (or close by) is either Glory or Klein Hole. Don't know which is which, but do remember them.

Here you go red, got a printer...

Ya know something weird, I always thought the "holes" were referencing the land features, holes in the cliffs, but the map shows them out in the water. Wonder what the deal is as the holes up on shore are high and dry when the lake is full???
