The Lark power-head is going together well. I'll be ready to install it back on the lower-unit soon, probably tomorrow, however I find myself with no specialized 'marine grease'. Separating the head from the shaft was easy with a little wiggling but the internal splines of the crank showed corrosion and were dry. Stainless external shaft was fine. I spite of the crank spline's rust it cleaned up well and the teeth are sharp. My question is will All Purpose HD automotive grease be OK to use on the crank to shaft splines? There should never be water there. - Pete

We used "any" grease ever since the Ark, but in more recent years OMC/BRP started specifying a moly grease. Maybe because they didn't want to admit their new o-ring position inside the crank sucks.

Juat place the grease on the shaft splines, not on the crankshaft splines or on the end of the driveshaft, as the grease will pile up in the crank and prevent the driveshaft from inserting fully
