Re: LARSON/GLASTRON Hull Problems- YES Again

I?ve followed both threads, what an ordeal! I always thought that Larson made a fine boat and was actually specifically looking for a Larson runabout. After seeing this I have completely changed my mind. The assembly of the transom looks like total sheeeit. Listen, you tried to work with them, they tried to fix this and obviously failed. Time for them to cowboy up and get you a new boat. At this point make them throw in a new motor for the trouble.

I have a fiberglass specialist looking at it. His first concern was a complete design failure.

Last word from Larson is that they discontinued the hull so they cannot replace it. Sounds like thier problem.

Well, if they discontinued it then they should provided a similar hull or better. I would use a lawyer of use publicity to force them... Larson is out of my list...

Man 1LSUFAN! This really sucks. Sorry for saying it this way, but I can't think of any other way to put it. Larson is the last boat I will ever buy. I have already told everyone I know who has a boat to stay way clear of all things from Genmar Holdings, Inc..

They laughingly call themselves “the World's Premier Builder of Recreational Boats”. If this is the premier, I would hate to see the middle or low end boats on the market today.

The stern of that boat looks 40 years old  whats up with that foam poking out

BTW the foam poking out is to fill the area of the hull that is no longer there. Larson says its suppose to be like that. First boat I see with huge gaps in the hull:confused:

I would definitely demand a full refund. There isn't any other solution.
With them dropping the hull from their line up , I cannot understand their position. They acknowledged the defect. You must be made whole.

WOW !!!!!!!! For whatever it is worth at this point, we too bought a left over (NEW) LARSON 204 Escape fish/ski boat.

We had one problem with it, and it was corrected, and that was a bolt missing out of the rear of the boat allowing water to get in causing the bilge pump to run. Dealer fixed it right then and there !!!!!!!!! We had a couple of seats that showed a couple of "cracks" in the vinyl, and they are sending ALL NEW SEATS, (I think because of the pics that I sent, and my dealer as well).

We've had NOTHING BUT A GOOD EXPERIENCE with LARSON, and our dealer. BUT, that boat of yours looks terrible. You can pm me if you'd like, and I can send you a e-mail to a "high up official" of LARSON !!!!!!!!!

Sorry for your problems !!!!!!!!! But we like ours really well. OH, by the way. Ours is a I/O drive boat.

those rails are just like sweeping crap under the rug. there's noting to make a hull/deck joint?...all the way around or just the stern? not that it matters much. there's no way the transom can handle an outboard like that or i/o.

that's pretty weak. good luck lsu fan.

Terrible it is. You should see it in person. I have not found any issues with the I/O models just OB. When you look at the design of the hull and the stringer placemnet it was definetly designed for a I/O. I beleive they choose to add the OB feature later without really verifying transom stress. As you can tell by the pics they failed miserably. They also discontinued all OB models.

I plan on launching a global campaign to discuss this issue and yes pics will be included. So far I have located 42 websites domestically and 36 internationally.

I will PM you to get the email.

Go at it man, this is horrible. I cant believe they would not give you a new hull even if they end up "loosing" earnings...

UPDATE

I have contacted LARSON a GENMAR Co. and spoke to the dealer last week to make sure everyone is clear that I am not accepting a repair job. This week we should hear something on a decision.

Since then I have been in contact with other Larson owners to see if my hull assembly is matching up with thiers. So far its a big fat no. Apparently someone was on crack :eek:the day they decided to assemble my boat. When you compare it to other boats it looks like a complete screw up that was covered up.

Every person that has seen the transon is totally amazed that this could get out of the factory originally. Quality control being regulated by quantity control.

LARSON is running out of time before this becomes a global example.

Larson changed after the 60's/70's. My boat (in sig) is 40 years old and other than the usual keel dings from 40 years of being run onto a trailer, beached, etc... strong as ever.

That's the thing though... these days a name doesn't say much with companies changing hands all the time.

have found one other person with a 2001 Larson that has the same problem. These according to Larson are not structual cracks and are therefore not covered by warranty. These cracks make the boat look like hell, and Larson is trying to deny responsibility, so the other gentleman and myself are driving arround in boats that look like they were bounced off walls with all the stress cracks on the deck. I was hoping there were more people out there with the same problem and that together we can present a stronger arguement to the manufacturer

Am going through a similar problem with donzi. They want to cover up factory defects. I'm not buying it, you shouldn't either. They should replace your boat even if its with another model in their line, or just give your money back, plus some for all the aggervation, fustration and B.S you have had to put up with. Seems like once they have your money......

Update

Still waiting on a response from Larson:(.

The last repair that the factory performed continues to crack beyond the transom everytime I move the boat by trailer. I'm not using the boat at this time just having people give me different evaluations. I have 5 kids that are extremly disappointed that I can't bring them tubing.

I will try to publish photos of the new cracked areas.
